Subject: New War on Terrorism Strategy: Funding Cuts

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 06/01/06 at 10:03 am

New York and Washington, the cities the 9/11 terrorists attacked, are seeing 40% decreases in their Homeland Security funding. Cities that did not get attacked, such as Atlanta and Omaha, are seeing their Homeland Security funding increased. Hmmm....
Well, the Homeland Security Department says not to worry so much about New York City because it has "zero national monuments." I suppose we shouldn't be so concerned with Washington D.C. either because that city is not very relevant to governmental operations or national security.
Seattle is also seeing significant decreases in funding. Not to worry there either, it's not near an international border, and there aren't any big ports there.
However, Michael Chertoff and I both know if we were terrorists just where we would set our sites: Jacksonville, Florida!
I notice New York, DC, Buffalo, and Seattle all vote Democratic. Georgia and Nebraska are Republican strongholds, and you-know-who's brother is governor of Florida. Oh, wait...this administration isn't known to be partisan about stuff, besides, how then could I explain the raise in funding for Sacramento--other than Ahhnold living there!

Of course, the New York Sun is most astute on this matter: Homeland security cuts from the Bush Administration? Let's beat up on Hillary!

Yep, Chicago's grants are down as well, but only $4.26 million....you know, that "tallest building in the world" thing is just a hoax and the terrorists I'm sure have no desire to take THAT away from us  ::)

I worry most about terrorists nailing a nuke plant. Just north of here we've got Vermont Yankee, a hobbled old clunker of a reactor, should have been decommissioned years ago. The NRC OK'd adding 20 years to its life putting millions at risk for the crummy profits of that company. One of the things Vermont Yankee has is a huge pool of nuclear wast suspended seventy feet in the air and covered only by H20. Just one shoulder fired missile from Al Qaida, and you can just forget it!

Hell, here in IL, we've got (I think) 4 nuclear reactors close enough to Chicago that if they blew one of them up, say Buhbye to Chicago.  So, great idea, guys, let's cut funding here in IL ::)

^ What I have seen over the past few days is nobody is happy with these decisions except the Bushies and their lapdogs in the press. For instance, the article I posted from that birdcage liner, the New York Sun, tried to blame Hillary Clinton, and blame Republican congressman Peter King (R-NY) for bolstering Hillary, when that's the last thing King would ever do. King until now was a staunch partisan who toed the Bush line...until now. It's this kind of federal ineptitude that may fracture the GOP and cost them in upcoming elections.
