There's nothing wrong with it.  But some people, primarily women, don't like being only known for being pretty if there's other outstanding qualities they possess.  Obviously some men feel the same way.

If I'm a doctor or a lawyer or a politician, I'd prefer to be known as that instead of just some good-looking woman.

Ahhh, and I remember the days when Arianna was the ultimate evil among California Democrats.  In the 1990's, she was a well-known Republican, who was hated by Democrats state wide.  Of course, they also hated her because she was an outspoken spokesperson for her husband, Mike Huffington.

I have often wondered how much of her "change in politics" was simply a way to get back at her husband.  Their marriage did not last for long after he failed to become Governor.

And here are some more hot political babes.

She was the 2nd lady that I placed a picture of in my earlier post.  From top to bottom they are:

Bo Derek
Tammy Bruce
Mimi Miyagi
Donna Rice-Hughes

And Tia, they are all "Conservative".  And yes, Donna Rice-Hughes is the same "Donna Rice" from the Gary Hart scandal.  In recent years, she has founded "Enough Is Enough", a group very active in stopping illegal pornography, and protecting children from both pornography on the internet and child stalkers on the internet.

And I also remember Tammy Bruce from the early 1990's, when she was a Republican bashing mad-dog Liberal (her and I even debated for 5 minutes in 1994 about her belief that the military has outlived it's purpose and should be disbanded).  It is rather interesting that Arianna Huffington was once PNG to Democrats, and Tammy was their little darling.  Now Arianna is their little darling, and Tammy is PNG.

Yes, it is very good.  And it is the book that sealed her fate in the "Liberal Community".

I have long had a lot of respect for Ms. Bruce.  I was a long-time caller to her radio show in LA, both in oposition to some of her views (the need of military, state funded abortion) and in support of many others (spousal abuse, California's "Domestic partners" law, equal rights towards women).  I probably talked to her on the radio at least 20 times.  And I was lucky enough to have met her twice.

At this time, she was the President of the LA chapter of the NOW.  She was also very active in GLAAD.  The "turning point" basically came when the OJ Simpson trial happened, and the Clinton scandals.  On both of those, she stood apart and spoke her mind.  On OJ, she said that he was guilty, because his history of spousal abuse was well known.  With Clinton she simply saw it as another case of a man abusing his power and having sex with an employee.  She simply could not understand how women could defend that kind of action, no matter who the man in question was.

Her book "The Thought Police" was not an attack on "Liberalism", but was instead an attack on "Group Thinking".  This is something she accuses a lot of "the Left" of doing (and also those on "the Right" as well).  In short, you can't be a "Liberal" unless you accept Abortion, Gay Marriage, Greenpeace style Environmentalism (if not PETA and Earth First environmentalism), free health care, and every other "Liberal Cause".  And that if you dare to speak out against one of the "Liberal Icons", you do so at your own risk.

The book was intended to be a "wake up call", not an attack (since she herself voted for Clinton both times, and considers herself a "Liberal" to this day).  However, she was soundly thrashed, which she then went on to talk about in her next book, "The Death of Right and Wrong".

I have read her books, and find them very interesting.  She is simply not liked because she has never had a problem with standing up and saying publically "I do not agree with this".  In fact, when reading The New Thought Police, it shows how much her "ostracism" by her former friends bothers her.  Being a fan of both Ray Bradbury and George Orwell, she fears what "groupthink" is doing to "Liberalism", and wants to see more people think for themselves instead of following blindly simply because they are told "that is what Liberals believe".

The fact that she is cute, intelligent, articulate, and funny makes things even better for me.  I have enjoyed listening to her for almost 15 years.

Sounds like Tammy Bruce has  a few screws loose.  Either that, or she's just cynical.  That's right, right-wing punditry pays.  I wish I hadn't been such a principled drip in college and started right-wing rag.  With my knack for paranoid vitriol, I could have stacked right-wing foundation grants a mile high--Scaife, Bradley, Olin---and then I could have set myself up with an internship at Heritage.  From there, the sky's the limit.  To be among the ranks of the Right, you don't have to know what you're talking about.  Heck, what you say doesn't even have to make sense!  Just beat the drum for the GOP and shred with ceaseless invenctive anyone to the right of Attila to the Hun.

Just ask David Brock, he'll tell you.  Calling Anita Hill "a little bit nutty, and a little bit slutty" bought him a Mercedes sports coupe.  Rush Limbaugh has liquid assetts of a quarter billion and he's pill-popping half-witted Top 40 DJ who didn't even register to vote 'till he was 35.  Sean Hannity couldn't outwit a stoned sheep.  Ann Coulter is crazier than a rat in a tin sh*thouse.  And yet..these crackpots get paid more in a week than the average American does in a year!

I agreed with what Mr. Keizer was saying, I just hope he isn't saying it to try to curry favor with the Right, for two reasons:
1. The Right is wrong.
2. The Right will hate you anyway, so concessions are a waste of time.

I like what she has to say although some of it is a little confusing because not very many liberal thnikers and lifestylers support some of the issues she does, which fascinates me. On one hand she wants to live her life the way she wants, and yet she doesn't think that America should be forced to approve or change tradition. She's pro capitol punishment (hell yeah, I like this chick  ;D )  She's right when she implies that many on the left are making it seem unamerican to even think certain ways; thus her book The New Thought Police. We're slowly being influenced to be made to think that thinking a certain way is bad and that if you're not approving & thinking the way the left thinks, you're narrow minded or not in line with what Americans want. I appreciate her defense of family values and traditions as we've always known them, and to not let them be compromised but that's me just ranting and coming from my small world. I don't care to get involved with the political issues here, but I Like Tammy,  and I'll say that not all the Right, or conservatives, or traditionalists, or fundementalists Christians think as one just as all the left are not one giant brain functioning as one. she's a babe and does anyone know who her girlfriend is? I'd like to see a pic of her.

No, but here is one of her first girlfriend, Brenda Benet (along with Brenda's ex-husband, Bill Bixby).

http://www.lequotidienducinema.com/seriestv/lemagicien/3.jpg

Ms., Bruce is very private about her "love life".  She spoke as far back as 1992 about her first girlfriend killing herself in Tammy's house, and how it severely traumatized her (it happened in 1982, Tammy was 17 at the time).  But it was not until a few years ago that she ever named Brenda Benet by name.

In fact, she has never been one to go around "outing" people, feeling that sexuality is a personal decision, and nobodies business other then the people involved together.  And a lot of suspician about her girlfriends suicide may revolve around a tabloid that was going to "out" Brenda Benet around the time of her death (Brenda was an actress on the TV soap Days of Our Lives).  As far as I know, she has never publically named any of her former or current lovers (Brenda was brought up because Tammy also works with several suicide prevention groups and gay teen support groups, and was talking about how it had impacted her own life).

TO be fair, Ann is a "Political Pundit".  And she often makes remarks that are "outrageous" and "inflamatory", because that is the image she presents.

And the clip is simply a bunch of random clips strung together, completely lacking in both context, and and things she may say that are supportive of Canada.  And I am also equally sure that if I wanted to, I could string together a bunch of 5-10 second clips of Michael Moore, Bill Clinton, and even Walter Cronkite that make them look equally ignorant and arrogant.

This is why I largely ignore "spliced together clips", of any sort.  Because you are really not watching the person being covered, but a collection of their worst quotes, presented in a way to make them look bad.  Notice how many political ads during the election cycle are little more then that.

"we might roll over one night and crush them"? you could tape me for months and you'd never be able to recut the result to capture me being THAT hateful.

plus, that kinda hatred for countries that don't support right-wing foreign policy is endemic to that certain strain of the radical right. remember "freedom fries"? remember the disgusting talk about exhuming american troops from french soil? remember when ms. coulter started hating on the 911 widows because they dared to disagree with bush's policies?

maxwell's right, there are a lot of people on the right where if you don't agree with them, they will hate you and seek to punish you mercilessly for it. so if there was something uncharacteristic about ms. coulter's outbursts and the smug pronouncements of that little bowtie dude, i might believe it was some sorta editing hack job. but it's completely characteristic of the sort of thing those guys do, unfortunately.

May have.  Ann Coulter may have said something nice about Canada....oh wait, she did!  Well, partially.  She said the prairie provinces are OK because they're "like the American South," but the rest of the country...forget it!  That West coast, and everything easy of the Ontario border is another secular pinko commie-stan.  Like, you know the big atheist-gay-bondage-Marxist scene in Corner Brook?
http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/13/jerk.gif
You can find people on the Left who do the same thing as Coulter does, but they don't let those guys on TV.  Jello Biafra comes to mind.  When they have a liberal, leftie, Democrat, whatever, on the panel with the Ann Coulters of the punditocracy, it usually is some little bow tie guy, or one of those DLC-types, a DINO (Democrat-In-Name-Only).  FOX pundits refer to people like Howard Dean and Chuck Schumer as "the far Left."  There is nowhere in the mass media--not even Air America or Democracy Now--where the leftwing corollary to Ann Coulter gets a voice, and I don't have a big problem with that.  For instance, I agree with most of Jello Biafra's points-of-view, but he needs the stage all to himself as he spits fire and insults.  In the eyes of FOX News, Jello might as well be from the Baader-Meinhof crew, but Coulter, who behaves the same way as Jello, is granted legitimacy because her extremist views favor the military industrial complex and white supremacy.
(Of course, the white supremicists on FOX condemn racism, but there's a nod and a winky-wink behind it!)

And the same thing happens on the Left as well.  In fact, a lot of that same type of behavior happens in this very message forum.

I once again say, so what?  Ms. Coulter makes no claim to be neutral, or unbiased.  No more then the vast majority of people in here do not claim to be neutral or unbiased.

Or is it only allowed to express your own opinion or point of view if you agree with the Left?

[You can find people on the Left who do the same thing as Coulter does, but they don't let those guys on TV.

Sure you do.  You see it all the time.  Al Franken, Wayne Rogers, Roger Moore, Bill Maher, and the list goes on and on.  And you have others on "The Right", like Bill O'Riley, Rush Limbaugh, and Ben Stein.  Then you have the few that are hard to place, because their beliefs cover both ends of the spectrum, like Tammy Bruce.

And I again say "so what"?  These people are all either pundits, political commentators, and make no claims to be neutral.  But the last time I checked, they have a right to say whatever they want to say.  And people have the right to agree with them, or dissagree with them.

sure there's venom on the left as well. i'd like to find an instance where someone on the left dismissed and jokingly advocated the destruction of an entire country, though, and an ally of the united states to boot.

the point isn't necessarily that the right is mean and the left isn't. the point is that the rhetoric on the right damages america in a way that the rhetoric on the left -- with the exception of a handful of nutbars like ward churchill -- doesn't. getting on television and bashing canada like that just isn't cool. of course they have the right to do it, and i have the right to point out that they're hurting my country by doing so.

well, the way resources are distributed is a matter for legitimate political debate. that's different from just bashing america's allies for fun, there's really no good reason to do that. i'm not a fan of socialism personally and if america were on the verge of re-engineering its system to model it after red china i could see what you're saying, but right now america's so far from socialism it's hard for me to imagine that the socialists in the country are doing hardly any damage at all. they're more like an amusing curiosity. but the damage people like ann coulter are doing is actually tangible -- US foreign policy right now is crippled because so many people around the world hate us and so many of our allies are leaving us in the lurch. and it's this go-it-alone, everyone-but-america-sucks rhetoric that's the problem.

I find it vaguely incredible that Royal has come anywhere close to power: she's a terminal liability with a tendency to engage the vocal chords way before the brain kicks in.
