There's a few casinos across statelines good for a comfortable day trip.  Then you've the various lotteries and the dastardly scratch tickets.  I don't pay any attention to this stuff because I don't gamble.  I don't object to it morally, I've just had lots of luck in my life--bad luck--so why tempt it?

Here in WNY all of the Casinos are on Indian reservations (Niagara Falls area).
I'm not much of a gambler either, but I make it there once or twice a year for the buffet!
On the way out I'll drop $20, but that's it.
As for economical impact? I know a lot of people spend a lot of money there and it is certainly good for the Indian owners. They are supposedly owned by the tribes, but I don't know exactly how that works...
