Subject: San Francisco Mayor Newsom Apologizes For Affair

Written By: Badfinger-fan on 02/01/07 at 8:14 pm

Mayor Gavin Newsom apologized Thursday for having a sexual relationship with his former campaign manager's wife.
http://www.ktvu.com/news/10893656/detail.html

I'm sure the tolerant people in San Francisco will forgive and forget his lapse in judgement. .

here are a few response's from some of SF's residents:
"I could care less" said Lee Simmons, 79, at a downtown bank. "Newsom is great. I voted for him last time and I'll vote for him again."
---------------------
Tom Abbott, 36, an executive recruiter "having an affair with a loyal aide's wife was "a total slimeball move, Any guy who puts that much mousse in his hair can't be trusted," Abbott said. "You don't screw over your own boys." However, Abbott said that he would probably vote for Newsom in November.
---------------------
Construction worker Geremy Curtis, 34, agreed that while the news out of Newsom's office made for interesting gossip, "it will be laughed off"  Curtis predicted that San Francisco voters would forgive the mayor if he owned up to any lapses in judgment.

I wonder what the response would be if that had been Arnold Scwarzenggar?  anyways, I am not surprised at the ability of the citizens of this city to treat behavior like adultery as no big deal.  I actually thought that the Mayor was gay. I've seen very close friends involved in adulterous affairs and the rippling destructive effects it has on so many family and friends. I feel bad for his campaign manager.

California is truely an insane state.  San Francisco is the sity that just passed a law, stating that an employer has to pay for time off if you want to take care of a neighbor, or a pet.

About the only way to be sure that you can get away with anything in that state, is to be a Democrat.  Democrats in California can get away with murder.

It was only a few years ago that Governor Arnold almost saw his campaign derailed because he may have touched a woman's breast.  People were shocked and outraged.  Now we have a mayor that admits he slept with an aide's wife, while he himself was married.  And nobody really cares.

Of course, we are also talking about a state where smoking a cigarette in a bar will get you a $500 fine.  But smoking a join in the same club only gets you a $50 fine.  Truely a state for the insane.

  Life is so not fair...

Mayor of a major city when he's barely 30, movie star handsome, homosexual demi-god, and now I find out he's getting more a** than a toilet seat.  And here I thought he was in the news because his current g/f is 20 and she's been seen holding a wine glass around town groove ;) on...

Sure, he's sorry now!
I never cared for Newsom.  He's a greaseball.  However, you can't chalk this up to those "San Francisco values" as Bill O'Reilly did...and he would!
::)
Screwing around is American as apple pie and for just as long!  It's a scummy thing to do, but it's not the end of the world.  Let the people involved resolve it, even if they're public figures, I say.  The only reason I singled out certain adulterers, such as Newt Gingrich, for ridicule is because they were getting some strange while condemning others for doing so.

good point Max, I was definitely leaning towards Bill's SF values motto there  ;D  Adultery/cheating has no recognition of political party or left or right. I've seen it at the closest level of friendship within my own inner circle of friends and have seen how damaging it truly can be. Should a terrible lapse of judgement like this be overlooked and not considered when thinking about voting for him for Mayor again, or is it enough of a integrity flaw to not vote for the man. He did well to keep it secret for so long and to pursue sex with someone else's spouse, & someone very close to him. I think it's a huge weakness of character.

Why is no blame being put upon the woman in this?  After all, SHE's the one who is married and cheated......from what I heard, her husband had quit before this ever occurred (although, that could be wrong) ???

yeah, from that description it sounds pretty good to me too. a slap on the wrist for sparking a joint, i can totally get with.

the arnold schwarzenegger thing i think happened in a context of, here's a dude who was talking about how much fun it was to smash a woman's face into a toilet during the shoot for "terminator 3" and, wasn't he bragging about having group sex in the 70s or something? arnold schwarzenegger is a nasty mofo. and anyway, he DID get away with it. he won, after all!

There is plenty of blame to go around in all of this.

Not to mention that the woman came clean to her husband as part of her 12 step program.  So she obviously had more problems then just cheating.  And since the Mayor was also married at the time, they were both cheating.

I agree with Badfinger here though.  It shows a huge weakness of character.  Because it showed that he not only cared nothing about his own vows, but the vows of somebody else.  Makes you wonder if he takes any of his vows seriously.

However, I do applaud his decision to "come clean" about it.  Much better then the normal political ploy of deny-deny-deny.

Hey, it was the 1970's...  almost everybody was having group sex.  Sly Stalone even made a porn movie depicting group sex in the 1970's.  That was the end of the "Flower Power" era, and the beginning of the excesses of Disco.  It was all about free love, experimentation, and experience.  Herpes was barely known about, and AIDS was not even on the visual horizon.

Not to mention that he was single.  Now if he participated in group sex after 1986, I would probably look at it differently.  By that time he was married, and herpes and HIV were well known.

Gavin has agreed to pay his former campaign manager out of his own pocket for lost wages at a rate of $15,000 per month for the length of original work contract.  That was one expensive POA  :o

Just substitute milk for orange juice, and you've got yourself a Harvey Milk Wallbanger!

(I was going to say a Slow Comfortable Screw Against the Wall, but that'd be too easy!)
