Subject: U.S. Senate Defeats Immigration Bill

Written By: GWBush2004 on 06/28/07 at 11:47 am

The Senate voted 46-53 against cloture and the bill is said to be dead until at least after the 2008 presidential election.

Good riddance.

The problem with the failure of this bill is that it really was a moderate approach to helping curb the immigration problem.

It really did have a lot of support, including both President Bush and Senator Ted Kennedy.  So instead of a compromise, we are now going to have two extreems fighting over which way to go.

It had some good points but not enough...anyone couild claim citizenship with a note forged or not and it would take years before finding out due to the processing...

Also 1 guy was recently caught in Mexico FORGING the licenses of about 18 states and any other document anyone could bring him..That was just 1 guy..think of an industry!

In other words, two career politicians decided to embark on a huge pre-election fundraising effort (both sides of the aisle racked up piles of lobbyist cash to add amendments to the bill) in order to see which of them could get the biggest possible slice of the rapidly-growing Hispanic vote in 2008, and were willing to alienate their even more radical core party supporters (the Republicans' base went berserk over the presence of an amnesty provision, and the Democrats' base went equally berserk over the prospect of there being any conditions on that amnesty) to get it.

The only surprise here is that the bill actually failed.
