Subject: LPF (List Pim Fortuyn) to disband on New Year's Day 2008

Written By: Henk on 09/02/07 at 11:13 am

Not exactly the latest news, but I thought some of you might like to know anyhow. Sadly, this didn't make international headlines (unlike the rise of the party).

Members of the political party List Pim Fortuyn (LPF) voted at their annual meeting on July 21, 2007 to disband the party on January 1 2008. Of the members who turned up, 30 voted to disband and 26 to continue.
The LPF was founded by the Rotterdam politician Pim Fortuyn in February 2002. On May 6 2002 the outspoken party leader was murdered. Nine days later the party won 26 seats (of 150) in the Dutch general election. Its support has since collapsed (due to a lack of leadership, internal bickering and general discord over the "inheritance") and the party now has no MPs and just a handful of local authority councillors.

...Now who said only fairytales have a happy ending?  ;)

Most sources are in Dutch, of course, but there is a little something mentioned about the oncoming dissolution on Wikipedia
