Although the above is a spoof, I have had it with news teasers.
I hate the alarmist feeling in this country. All the serious news we're not getting...but we're being teased into tuning in, to look at the "emergency" that's threatening our lives now.
Comment or find us some examples of these teasers that keep the dumb and alarmed america tuning in.

CNN recently reported Aqua Dots contain date rape drugs. It was discussed here.
Countless other news stories "tease". I sometime wonder whether I'm watching the nightly news or the National Enquirer.

I read about that. What I hate is when they say "a toy in your home could hurt your kids! more at 11."

This is copied from AOL news frontpage:
"New Mutant Cold Bug a Threat?
Symptoms Similar to Average Virus"
Here's the article:
Yawn...

Oh yeah, I know exactly what you mean. "Is the apocalypse imminent? Find out later tonight!" Then the news story is about some nutjob in Arkansas who has a piece of toast with an odd burn pattern on it. ::)

Given that the various cold viruses mutate a lot (which is why we keep catching colds), the above happens so frequently it could hardly be described as "news"
On-topic, it's not news "teasers" that I find annoying, it's where a complete non-story is turned into "news" either through a lack of anything else worth saying, or the complete lack of understanding of the story (such as that virus one Jack mentioned), or because one particular story has gained some kind of public hunger for it, so the news media feel they have to report it, however un-newsworthy it is (is it really news, for example, that nothing has happened in the Madeleine McCann investigation... again?).

This whole thing drives me crazy. I can remember when "Breaking News" was a serious matter and was rarely used. Breaking news meant Kennedy, King, Kennedy, were assassinated. It wasn't used lightly. Now most of the news is just nonsense. I do not consider a bank robbery half way across the country serious enough to be a breaking story, but it is treated as such. It is all a diversion from what should be reported, and isn't.

At least you live in a reasonably civilized part of the country.. with actual news for the most part.
Our breaking news is usually something like - "Local pastor takes two s**ts in one day! Tune it at 11 for an in depth analysis of this shocking situation!"
Or when there is actual news, there has to be the local spin on it.
Like for instance, whenever there's a tsunami or earthquake somewhere out in the pacific, we have to have an interview with Larry Cornstalk who's father served in the Pacific in "dubayah dubayah two" and thus, has overnight became an expert on geological events of the pacific rim because he has some pictures his father took of a 12 year old Thai hooker in 1943.

Haha! yeah, right...
Got your attention now bury it in the broadcast to keep you tuned in. Meanwhile your child is upstairs chewing on Buzz Lightyear's toxic head...
Obviously, I'm not the only one who picked up on this...
