Representatives from nine Commonwealth countries, including Canada, voted unanimously to suspend Pakistan "from councils of the Commonwealth pending restoration of democracy and rule of law in the country," said Secretary-General Don McKinnon.

Three cheers for the Commonwealth. Now will Musharraf come to his senses or will he pull a macho trip and give that council of ministers the finger?

I doubt that it will be the only thing to make him do it, but it is certainly a big blow to Pakistan to be suspended TWICE. It sends a message.

I'm not sure what sort of message it sends. South Africa was suspended from the Commonwealth for decades and Zimbabwe has also been kicked out. It changed very little from the dicatators' point of view.
