Romney, who won the overshadowed Wyoming caucuses, is a Michigan native and his father was governor of the state in the 1960s.

Forty-one percent of people who voted in the GOP primary said Romney's Michigan ties were important to them, according to exit polls.

yeah, quite the win there Mitt...

Well he better enjoy his day in the Michigan sun(and a cold sun that is), I expect that it will soon be setting.

It could have been worse.  Huckabee could have won.  (Sorry for the semi-optimism.)

If Huckabee or Clinton wins the Presidency I'm more than willing to move into Whistledog's basement.  (In Canada)

Yeah I think I'd take Huckabee over Romney too, but I prefer neither.

Oh, there's hardly any point even talking about Mitt. Any Republican wanting to win the big one needs to carry the south.. and Mitt don't work in the South.

I don't know if anybody else saw the 'christmas cards' sent out to South Carolina voters by 'Mitt Romney' however. I don't know who Karl Rove is working for now but he's up to his old tricks.

How about Fred Thompson for the South then?

I mean, if Thompson hires Rove before Huckabee does....

Huckabee is pandering again.

"South Carolina's a great place for me. I mean, I know how to eat grits and speak the language. We even know how to talk about eating fried squirrel and stuff like that, so we're on the same wavelength. When I was in college, we used to take a popcorn popper, because that was the only thing they would let us use in the dorm, and we would fry squirrels in a popcorn popper in the dorm room."

One thing to keep in mind is that Michigan is being penalized by the DNC for having their primary early.  So, since Michigan allows cross-party voting (registered Democrats can vote in the Republican primary and vice versa), this may be a better indication of Romney's bipartisan appeal as a result of disenfranchised Democrats voting in the Republican primary.

Either way, it's scary to see Romney win this.  I'd take Huckabee over Romney, but then again, that's kind of like me saying I'd rather be shot in the crotch than in the head.

I could take Romney over Huckabee.  That man is ultra-hardcore-Christian, wants to rewrite the Constitution to make sure it contains God in it this time.

Plus I've had a strict no preachers-for-president rule that I feel trumps all parties.

Yeeeah, I didn't know how icky Huckabee was when I praised his populism.  He belongs on some armed compound in the Idaho panhandle.  He's turning out to be the Fred Phelps candidate.  He might as well pick Alan Keyes as his running mate.

The little glow I had in my heart for Huckabee got snuffed out like a birthday candle.

Back in '88 when Rat Pobertson was running, some of the lefties wore "No Preachers for President" t-shirts with the strike-through circle around Pat's picture.  I thought, where's Rev. Jesse Jackson's picture on that shirt?  He's a preacher, ain't he?  No preachers means no preachers means no preachers.

I actually came up with the rule because of Jesse Jackson... totally forgot about Pat Robertson, another good reason for the rule too.  I've never understood the Dems infatuation with Jesse, he's an extremist on the other end of the spectrum.

Pretty much.  Jesse and Al Sharpton should form their own Farrakhan party.

Pretty much.  Jesse and Al Sharpton should form their own Farrakhan party.

The problem with those two is they pick battles over short-term controversies with inconsequential outcomes.  Sharpton I don't respect for offering himself up as comic relief on FOX News.  I also remeber reading about the Tawana Brawley case when it happened, which is the first time I heard of Sharpton.  Brawley faked the entire incident, but Sharpton defends his actions to this day.  No hairshirt contrition necessary. Just saying, "Hey, I screwed up.  I didn't investigate the situation.  I jumped to conclusions. I was wrong." That would be fine with me. Everybody makes mistakes; people who won't admit their mistakes make me suspicious.

It's not like the right-wing would ever like him anyway.

Rev. Jackson sold himself to liberal Democrats riding on Dr. King's coattails.  My parents loved him.  I liked him too.  A decade later it was obvious the guy was no Martin Luther King.  No matter, Jackson's time has come and gone.
