Subject: Happy anniversary: Five years since "Mission Accomplished"

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 05/01/08 at 5:54 pm

Five years ago today our fearless leader, George W. Bush stood wearing a flight suit and codpiece on the decks of the USS Abraham Lincoln and declared: "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended!"  I guess the 3000 or so U.S. casualties since that day perished in "minor combat operations."
::)

Now, Bush did not say "Mission Accomplished" himself, but that's what the banner above his head read and because the media and the American people are so stupid, they thought it meant the war was over.  Whitheouse spokesperson Dana "Einstein" Perino clarifies:

"President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished' for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission.'"

What an awesome banner that would have made!

Oy vey!
:D

i wonder if dana perino is aware that she's sold her soul. whenever i hear her she seems a little uncomfortable spreading these filthy lies the adminsitration is making her spread. i heard recently when helen thomas was asking her about torture and she just kept up the same denial -- "we do not torture" -- that's been thoroughly discredited. EVERYBODY knows the bush administration tortures people.

It's going down because of the change of the guard. Either that or Bush said to himself "Maybe I am the worst President there is and ever will be" and had it taken down.

MISSION FAILED!

i have to admit i kinda like that lie they're telling. it's so over the top it's kinda funny. oh, so the sailors on the ship made that huge banner saying "mission accomplished" because they were talking about the sailors successfully accomplishing the mission of hanging up the sign saying "mission accomplished"? oh okay, sorry i got mixed up on that.

Well, it is torture to listen to Dana Perino tell lie after lie after lie. But I wonder how she can do it with such a straight face.

In town yesterday the local high school had a walk out and a minor protest march declaring "Mission still not accomplished".  Was that just here or anywhere else?

It hasn't happened here. But I live in the Midwest so I can't tell. (This is also why I'm a little more moderate here, feels like I can't fit in here. :-\\)

He was so sure.  I hate it when he misjudges his own power to control the actions of other nations.  Dana probably gets paid a lot to look pretty and sounding believable.  Mine as well dub the press conferences and put her in something slightly sexy and republican.  She can borrow from Ann Coulter's closet!!!

Might have been some streetcorner sign-waving in my area--but there always is around here.  Usually retirement-age '60s radicals who have nothing else to do on a Wednesday afternoon!

Reminds me.  Dana's pretty hot.  Totally got that Gillian Anderson thing going on.  Between you, me, NSA, and the rest of the Intarwebs, I'm going on record as saying that I'd gladly cough up a few bucks to see her X-Files on DVD...A :)
