Subject: Oil race for found oil in the Arctic circle . . .

Written By: Bobby on 07/23/08 at 6:32 pm

I read this with naive sadness because it seems to me there is no hope for selfish humans. The race for fuel will only get more desperate as oil levels lessen.  :(

Come and listen to a story 'bout an eskimo named Oktollik
Poor Eskimo barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was clubbing on some seals,
And up through the ice came a bubbling field
(of Oil that is... black gold... Arctic Tea)

The next thing you know
Oktollik's a millionaire
The kinfolk said
"Oktollik move away from there"
Said "Californie is the place you ougtta be"
So he loaded up his dogs
Took his sled to Beverly...
Hills that is..
Swimming pools... Movie stars...

Nice tale, Lyricboy, but maybe a little too cryptic for me? :)

Enough for "almost three years," eh?

How many barrels of oil will it take to extract the stuff?

This is NOT a solution to long-term energy problems!

Bobby,

My post is a reworked version of "the Ballad of Jed Clampett"... Theme song from the american TV series "the Beverly Hillbillies".

Show is about a hillbilly family who accidentally strike it rich by hitting oil on their property in the Ozarks.

Clearly not, since no matter how much we find, it is still a finite resource.  Other solutions must be found, and have been, at least theoretically.  Think about yow much electricity could be generated by the tidal flow in the Bay of Fundie, with its ten or more foot differential.

They call that West Africa. (Angola, Nigeria, etc.)

Ah right. Now I know 'The Beverly Hillbillies' but not the soundtrack, lol.

That is right. I think why I was sad reading this because I imagined, while reading the article, in about 5-10 years time the world powers having a war over a couple of barrels of oil.  :-\\

Wouldn't we achieve more with cooperation and harmony among mankind and mankind's nations?

Yeah, but if you talk like that people write you off as a commie f*g dreamer!

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Of course, in an ideal world, I'm sure politics could be a harmonious practice but, from what I know (which granted is very little) every country is power-playing the other.

Oil in the past has been a motivator for fighting in the Middle East - and that is when there are supplies of it! Imagine what kind of conflict can come out of squabbling over the last batches of barrels left on the face of the earth - as sad as it seems, I can imagine countries getting this pathetic.  :(
