Subject: Virginity, how much are you willing to pay for it?

Written By: thereshegoes on 09/13/08 at 1:40 pm

Is she really doing this or is just a stunt?

But it got me thinking...do men still care about a woman's virginity? Do girls treat it as a treasure?

When first time sex is usually painfull and awkward, why the appeal?

This story reminded me of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_First_Time

This girl is likely lying about her virginity.  And proving her virginity would be difficult as well, given the possibility of hymenorraphy surgery.

So yeah, virginity is a rather trivial thing to fixate on.  For some reason, a lot of the world's cultures do.  Then again, a large portion of humanity is rather stupid and petty.

Once again, I agree with you.  It sounds like a bogus stunt (rhymes with...).  Maybe she can get an OB/GYN to verify under oath that her original hymen is intact!  Considering her sister's a hooker, she's probably not a 22-year-old virgin.

"We live in a capitalist society. Why shouldn't I be allowed to capitalize on my virginity?"

No, dearie, that's not capitalism, it's only prostitution.

There's the oft-repeated anectdote (no one really knows how it went verbatim)  in which Winston Churchill says to a lady,
"Would you sleep with me for a million pounds?"
"Certainly," she replies.
"Would you sleep with me for ten pounds?," Churchill asks.
The lady becomes indignant.
"Mr. Prime Minister, what do you think I am?"
"We've already established that," explains Churchill, "now we're just negotiating price."

This is what happens when you raise your daughters on "Sex and the City."

I suppose if I had a daughter I would care about such things. Nowadays, looking exclusively for virigins puts one near pedo territory. As far as sex goes, it's more about the giver and the gift than the number of times that gift has been given. Some women are quite gifted, if you catch my drift.

It is rather ironic that prostitution is illegal, but porno is legal.  You can't pay for sex unless you film it and then sell it.

...do men still care about a woman's virginity?

Only in as much as they want to be the one to pop the cherry (excuse the vulgarity) and keep their own daughters as pure as the driven snow...well, maybe not even the second one anymore!

Funny you should point that out.  A buddy of mine recently dated a "sex therapist" (PhD credentials and all) and this woman was totally neurotic and manipulative about sex.  She told him she would sleep with him on the first date, but then she'd never see him again (which makes "first" date a mathematical paradox) but if he waited and courted her the old-fashioned way, then she might consider an LTR.  She said not to get her wrong, she loves to have sex, but she doesn't want to get hurt, so one-night-stands are better...I politely told my friend to dump the bimbo.  She worked for one of the women's colleges here advising female students in sexual matters.  That about made me retch!

The pornographers use legal loopholes.  Chief among them is the claim that they are not paying the participants for the sex act, but for the rights to release the media, be it photography or video.

Indeed her story is true.  On the TV newstabloid, The Insider, Lara Spencer :-* got this gal on the lie detector and she passed.  :o

As to being a trivial thing to fixate on, who knows?  I mean, you don't go into a McDonalds and ask for a burger that somebody has already taken a bite out of, unless that's all they got and you're starving.  When looking at cars, people most people prefer new over used.  Products are advertised as "new and never seen before".  So the fixation on virginity is not all that foreign.

But if you do buy that used car, just make sure its not running on retreads!  ;D

Oh Jack, you're a romantic :D The thing is sex can only be perfected by doing it so i don't really get why having no experience at it turns men on.

Thank you, m'lady. I read some yesterday about why men like virgins: being pure (no STDs), innocent (saved herself for her man - potential good wife material), and so on. One reason that came up is that the man may be as inexperienced as she is (or simply bad in bed), so there's no expectation on the woman's end since she would have nothing to compare the experience with... until later on down the road.

Lie detectors don't have the greatest accuracy.  Most of them have about a 30% error rate.

I see what you mean with the analogies, but wouldn't you prefer a woman with a little experience?  I mean, I don't go for sluts, but I'm not a fan of virgins either for reasons I won't go into here.

I get it. But i know virgins who are everything but pure and innocent and exxperienced girls who are still pure at heart, where it actually matters. As for the no comparison factor...there are so many men with performance ansiety that it does seem the best explanation so far.

When does a woman become a slut? When she sleeps with the same amount of partners as the common male species?

IMO-I think there's a cost to sex out of marriage. With the scare of STD and teenagers not ready to be parents, I wouldn't have sex out of marriage not for moral reasons, but for convince.

And I don't like kids.

If dudes are worried about diseases, they'd better not confuse "virginity" with "clean."  For instance, there is no oral hymen.

What gets me in some countries they think that virgins will cure AIDS. So instead of getting cured, they infect some innocent girl. (And yes, I mean GIRL-because many of these girls are barely passed puberty).

I know that, in most cultures, women get hit with stigmas of promiscuity that guys don't usually get.  I don't think it's fair either, but if you honestly want to know how I define a slut...

Here's kind of a yardstick by which I measure things.  I figure the average girl starts getting sexually active somewhere in the 13 to 16 range.  Sure, some start even earlier while others wait much longer, but on average, this is the range that most often applies.  So, say I start dating a girl who's 25.  I'm not gonna just ask her bluntly how many guys she's slept with, but as I get to know her, I'll probably be able to put together a number.  If she's slept with 5 guys or less, I'm not really worried.  If she's slept with 6 to 10 guys, I'm more careful and concerned.  If she's slept with over 10 guys by only 25 years of age, then yeah...  I'd have to classify her as a slut.

I think the same standard could be applied to guys.  I'll spare you the details of my experience, but let's just say I'm nowhere near the slut level as defined, and I'm 29.

All of the above is a general rule, and obviously other factors play a part, but we all have our limits to what we are willing to tolerate in the opposite sex.

You would be surprised! A lot of women still believe and are taught that the right thing to do is remain a virgin until the night of their marraige. As old and outdated as that may seem to you - if they believe it then they hold their virginity in the highest regard. Ther eis no other way to explain it. Virginity is their GOLD

But by the same token you don't have to be a slut to be with a variety of people. Virginity was fine when there were a  limited number of people and the mortality rate was low ( like 35 or so). But now days, you have to be so careful choosing a life partner. What if you marry someone and find no "spark". The results could be disastrous, even abusive ( look at all the spousal abuse that went on before the past 30 years or so). I not attributing all of it to sexual incompatabilty but surely some must come from that.

I'm not advocating casual sex either, just not blindly comminting to someone else before finding out if you really "fit".

Until one day you fall for a girl who slept with 100 guys and your limits go out the window.

That way of thinking is bs, Sir. A 25 year old woman may have slept with 10 guys and had relationships with all of them. Or she may have slept with 5 guys in a 2 months timeline and all be one night stands. Numbers don't mean sheesh, even as a general rule cause rules are useless and never make sense.

I knew a girl once who told me she slept with 30 different guys, she was the most beautiful, kind, respectable woman i knew. She just saw sex as fun,no strings attached kind of thing, she always used protection and had absolutely no regrets. No one saw her as a slut cause she really wasn't one. It was liberating to see a woman like her,who had no hang ups about sex like the rest of us.
Me I'm the kind of person who wants sex with love so my list is short too but i admit I'm a little jealous of the "just do it" crowd.

Well, i'm not saying it's wrong to wait for the right sex partner, there are a good number of reasons to not have sex and they're all valid but because a girls virginity is her gold is definitely not one in my book. I wish young girls had real reasons to be proud of themselves and not use their choice to not have sex as an achievement, as something that makes them better than her peers.
Religion demonizes sexuality and they believe what they're told,by their parents,by their church. What happens when they start to get interested in sex? Do they fight it by praying? Do they punish themselves? If there is a God outhere who created us all would he makes us sexual beings if sex was wrong? Would he make it so pleasurable if its only purpose was procreation? I don't think so. Sex is the true gold.

If I'm not mistaken, this girl's sister is a prostitute.  I get the impression that virginity isn't one of her family values if you know what I mean.

I can't argue with that.  I'm just saying that a girl or guy who's been with 10 partners by 25 is probably rushing for experience.  Now, if you're 40 and have been with 10 partners, that's more understandable.

Well yeah...  I mean...  if STD's didn't exist, I'd sleep around as much as I could.  My hangups with sex have to do with practical concerns, not psychological ones.  I'm not in any hurry to catch herpes, HPV, or gonorrhea.  Now, obviously, using protection is better than not using it, but nothing is fool proof.  You can still catch things when using protection.

For example, a pretty high percentage of the population has HPV.  There are different strands of it, with some being a lot worse than others, and it's pretty easy to catch.  Some strands have a heavy link to cervical cancer.

Regardless, I'm not saying that I really think less of people who sleep around, but I am saying that I'm not going to get intimate with a girl who's been with a lot of guys.  I've already been with one girl like that, and it didn't work out very well.  Most of my better experiences have been with less experienced girls.  Two of the ones I've been with were virgins, which was fun, but I think I prefer women that are somewhere in the middle -- experienced, but not extremely so.

Well, i'm not saying it's wrong to wait for the right sex partner, there are a good number of reasons to not have sex and they're all valid but because a girls virginity is her gold is definitely not one in my book.
