Subject: Has PETA lost their ever loving minds?

PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly

The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

During an interview for CNBC at the White House on Tuesday, a fly intruded on Obama's conversation with correspondent John Harwood.

"Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.

"Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."

Friedrich said that PETA was pleased with Obama's voting record in the Senate on behalf of animal rights and noted that he has been outspoken against animal abuses.

Still, "swatting a fly on TV indicates he's not perfect," Friedrich said, "and we're happy to say that we wish he hadn't."

Deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said the White House has no comment on the matter.

Seriously?  If they want to be taken serious, I think they need to choose their battles a little more carefully. ;D

It's nice to know that all is well in the world so the only thing we have to worry about is Obama killing a fly. ;D

The question assumes that the PETA people have minds to begin with.

I'm waiting for someone to put the video of Obama with the fly with this tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzrdoEO67xc

Last time I checked, flies are not animals. PETA could be doing so much good, but instead they resort to dumb publicity stunts that only make their organization crazier than it already is.

Exactly! What is next? The White House gets infested with cockroaches and Peta wants them removed and sent back into the wild? For real!

They are called PESTS for a reason! They aren't "loving life forms that are just looking for a society to accept and love them"!!! I know, lets catch a bunch of flies, release them at the next PETA banquet/luncheon whatever, and have the flies regurgitate all over their food and see if PETA really wants to eat anything after that! What a bunch of idiots! ;D

im gonna stick up for PETA cuz that's the mood im in.  :D they didnt call him names or anything, they just sent him a bug trap. and, you know, all things being equal it's better not to kill flies if you can help it i suppose, though i do it all the time. i figure PETA kinda HAD to do SOMEthing. i mean, it's kinda their job...

i was waiting for a ridiculous conservative backlash though. you know, "some compassionate liberal he is, massacring flies. sure you don't care now but one day you're killing flies, the next you're raping 14-year-olds and aborting toddlers."

Plus, flies make wonderful pets.  They're loveable, loyal, friendly, good at fetch...

Wait, I mean insect compainions.  We don't say "pets" anymore.

Technically, flies are in the animal kingdom and are, thus, animals :P

But I kill them regardless.

I support the President's right to kill anything he's willing to eat.  ;)

I ate a fly on a bar bet, it was highly impressive. I grabbed it out of mid-air and didn't know what to do with it, somebody bet me I wouldn't eat it.. I won.

Yes.  Seriously.

When I saw Obama swat the fly, I thought, "What if PETA made a scene about this?"

I was still naively subjunctive with my "what if"

It's like what happened to Rush Limbaugh since Obama got elected.  He's not figuratively crazy, he's literally psychotic.

i still say sending him a humane flytrap does not register on the crazymeter. the other side is openly advocating the assassination of abortion doctors, and we're spanking peta for sending the president a flytrap. i don't buy it. peta is crazy, yes, but not at the moment. this seems perfectly fine to me.

Obama should have just gotten a pet frog.  The fly is natural prey for the frog.  No harm done!

Dude, I was so tempted to buy goat meat today.  The farmer's market has this lady that drives in from Indiana with freshly slaughtered carcasses.  Too expensive though, so I bought some thick assed ham steaks.

Hell, I know.  The frackin' skeeters are HUGE this year.  I can't even open the balcony door anymore because they fly in.  I can't even open the windows because the little mosquitos can get in right through the screening.

Ah, I seem to recall that now. From PETA's site:

"And who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?"

To answer their question, I saw a video the other day of some guys using live cats as shark bait. It was bad enough it made me want to join PETA... almost, anyway.

Blue marlin and "sharks".

You can find the video on this site, if you're so inclined. It's not *terribly* graphic by my standards, but I'll add "NSFW" to CMA.

One guy called kittens "land fish". I'm burning in hell for laughing at that, but so be it.
