Subject: Sarah Palin is now available...

Written By: Rice_Cube on 07/03/09 at 3:29 pm

...since she apparently resigned as Alaska's governor :o  Just something I heard on the radio just now.  Anyone know why?

There is always a story behind a story like this.  It will take a few days, but it will come out.

Makes sense to me...
although when Gray Davis was recalled as California Governor in 2003, he wasn't succeeded by the lieutenant gov. Instead, the people voted to replace him with Aahhnold. ::)

That's because the recall initiative calls not only for the governor to step down, but also requires a special election to choose a successor.  Don't you live in CA?

Of Course!! I've lived there all my life.

I just didn't pay attention to how the system works. FTR, though, I didn't vote for Aahnold. I voted for somebody else to replace him.

She claims it's to focus on a 2012 bid for the presidency... talk about delusions of grandeur.  There's also some talk last week about how her popularity with the Alaskan population has been in decline for a few months now.

If she can't handle a Katie Couric interview, she is NEVER going to be ready for the national stage.  If she can't appear on Letterman, she's really never going to be ready.

She'll mostly steal votes from the people who voted for Mike Huckabee the last time.

At least this way she can't make any more poor choices while in office...

Watch it, Smart! I am a Protestant, and sometimes don't even want to guess at what your faith is!

This is yet another case of the God-forsaken media manufacturing news instead of reporting it. If anything, Sarah stepped down to drive the tabloid reporters away from her children. But hey, if Alaska has a congressional election coming up, I wouldn't put it past Palin to run for Senator! And if she runs for President in '12, she will have my full support! After all, she has something that Obama Bin Laden can never claim to have: A TRACK RECORD!

'Trig' is a Norse word meaning strong, a nod to their heritage.

When I said a 'Track Record', I meant that Palin, unlike Black Beauty, has actually held public office and been a force for political reform, and made positive changes for her constituents. The man now loitering in the White House never wrote any substantial pieces of legislation during his one-third-of-a-term in the U.S. Senate, and half the time did not show up for work because he was too busy writing 2 memoirs devoid of accomplishment and trying to cram repetitions of the word 'change' into Presidential campaign speeches. So, since he never did any work while taking up space in the Senate, don't expect any major decisions or progressive reforms while he's serving as the in-name-only President.
I Pray To God Sarah does run in 2012, then we'll actually see the political system in constructive use!

Apologies to anyone besides Jessica I may have offended with my last post. She sent me a vulgar and infuriating PM to which she did not even have the courage to allow a private response. I do try to be respectful in all discussions here and with this one glaring exception, everyone else seems to do the same. I still don't see how all this matters.  Yes, she may run for president in 2012, but she did NOT run for president in this past election, which means she was never Obama's competition, which means she's pretty irrelevant.  I think some people (Doc) are forgetting that John McCain ever existed.

Funny, first thing to cross my mind was "On a Friday on a holiday weekend?  Can't be for a presidential run.  Gotta be a scandal.  Oh, please, let the scandal be a sex tape.  Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease..."

She's resigning for something other than a 2012, run, so you had your /strikeouts in the wrong place.  Fixed that for ya.

"Todd and his buddies built it" always sounded pretty fishy.  Especially when you learn that it was built after permits were abolished by Palin.  I'm just amazed they're finally putting the pieces together.  I guess Ted Stevens biggest crime was that only part of his house was remodeled by the oil companies, not the entire thing.

i never really understood this proclivity to set aside whole necessary professions for ridicule. i dont mean to be all difficult, but do you want to live in a country without lawyers? do you want accused to go without representation? nah, we need lawyers, and it's a noble profession (well, sometimes), its unpopularity notwithstanding.

i think it sticks in people's craws that lawyers have to sometimes diligently defend people who are obviously guilty, but that's how the system works. sometimes a lawyer has to defend a real scumbag, and do it honestly, but if we just start not defending people cuz they look real guilty, the system breaks down.

I suppose you're gonna stick up for dentists too  ::)  So of course in our country the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty. There's not much nobility in a lawyer doing "their job" defending the lowest sociopath criminal because you know they'll do everything they can to put a seed of reasonable doubt into a juror's head, irregardless of whether their client is innocent or guilty, because it's their job to get their client free. I would venture to say that some don't care if the defendants are guilty, they're going to do or say whatever they have to do to win. I would agree that the entire collection of dream team lawyers and shyster attornies shouldn't be labeled bad or hated, but Tia, I really don't hate lawyers. I was only ridiculing Hilllary and the hate lawyers thing was a goof. Guess I have seen too many bad guys get away with murder on technicalities. did you ever see the movie with Michael Douglas & Hal Holbrook "The Chamber"?

Well, there is The Chamber, then there is To Kill a Mockingbird and Murder in the First.  There is a problem with bad guys getting away with murder, but I think there is a bigger problem with guys(good or bad) getting nailed for something they didn't do.

Alright on Sarah Palin why did she step down as Alaska's governor I mean she only had what a year and a half to go to finish out her term. I think with her stepping down takes any shot she had of winning the Republican Nomination for President in 2012 is gone. I mean she's fed up with the Alaska's states legislature so thats why she steps down. If you can't handle putting up with Alaska's state legislature how are you can handle being in Washington(D.C.) in any political capacity?

Sarah Palin isn't a very good speaker when she hold a press conference in my opinion. I mean I just don;t see her debating well against Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich for the 2012 Republican Nomination for President either. The Minnesota Governor(Tim Pawlenty) might run for the Republican Nomination in 2012 I just don't see Palin doing well in a stacked field like this.

I wonder if she waited for a big story (i.e, the jackson death) to break to try and deflect attention from her announcement. I'm still wondering if something big is about to come down ethics-wise and she's trying to get in front of it.

as for all insinuations that republicans have more "family values" than democrats, I think such comments can now safely be ignored. even responding to them is giving them tee much credit. stick a fork in it; the repub family values thing is SO done.

yes but if you'll recall FOK news put a D next to his name at one point. In FOXWorld, this turned him into a democrat, and FOXWorld is more real than reality, which has a proven liberal bias.

Chucky, I meant that Democrats use our tax money to find candidates they think are sexy and visually appealing to voters, i.e.: Kennedy, Obama, Clinton(still can't understand that one! 8-P), and don't bother to check for ability to lead or make decisions(With Kennedy they obviously got lucky, since we survived the Cuban Missile Crisis! http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/05/hippy.gif). Well, as a few have already pointed out, Sarah Palin definitely fits that description. She was picked by John McCain who only met with her ONCE for about 15 minutes before choosing her as his running mate. When he picked her, everyone went, "Who?" Nobody knew who she was-including McCain. Why did he pick her? Hmmm, let me guess.

-She is a Republican.
-She is a woman.
-She is pretty.

We know that it really can't be for her brains because how could he have known that she didn't have any after meeting her ONCE . Kennedy, Obama, & Clinton ALL had/have brains which is the reason they were elected.

Sarah Palin probably would like to do what many Congress members have -- become a lobbyist.

The money is better, and you never have to worry about getting elected or supporting the will of the people.

You have waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much free time. I hope that's still funny when you're in hell.
Rice, I'm glad that you are a Republican, but more importantly a Christian. Enjoy Jessica while you can.

Besides, what I meant was that Democrats sell their candidates with sex appeal, not ability. I wasn't defending Larry Craig or Sanford, but if you look at history, the majority of politicos caught in sex scandals have been Democrats. I still champion Sarah not because of her party affiliation, but because of her political track record, marked with a long history of reform. As a fellow Republican(but more importantly and American), you champion whoever you like. Fair enough?

"Most candidates, most public officials get to look into a camera and say, 'you better leave your hands off my kids,'" she said. "Well I haven't been able to say that. And that double standard that's been applied, that's been a little bit frustrating."

As Palin spoke, she and her husband Todd Palin loaded four news crews into two small fishing boats and headed into Bristol Bay from Dillingham.

The Palin family -- Todd's sister, mother and father, as well as nieces and at least two children, had picked the journalists up at the airport in Dillingham and shuttled them to Bristol Bay in old pickup trucks and SUVs.

i was gonna guess that maybe she was upset over her family getting criticized in the unlikely event she's not dodging some kinda corruption scandal. corse she did kindause her kids as stage props and human shields bit at the same time I can understand that public scrutiny might get old.

This strategy may SEVERELY backfire though. I'm foreseeing the tabs trailing her on the beach for the next ten years scanning her for cellulite, putting a 24-hour tail on todd to try and catch him in an affair, and lurking around the local high schools trolling for evidence one of the palin girls might be preggles again. goodbye frying pan, hello fire.

All politicians do the "photo op" thing.

There is a huge chasm between that and, essentially, the press calling her daughter a sluttessa, which is essentially what they did.

I'm not a huge Palin supporter (my willingness to party with her notwithstanding) but the treatment of her kids during and after the election was inexcusable.

yeah it was a bit much but by the same token, if someone's gonna judge others and preach abstinence, you simply CAN'T get pregnant as an unwed teenager. It doesn't seem to have sunk in with people on the right just how galling and hypocritical regular folks find that. it's sorta like how sanford still seems to think he's qualified to preach family values. It's a very curious blind spot. That plaily had a lot to do with how the kids got treated, which doesn't make it okay but they seem to want to get a pass on the hypocrisy and on policing everyone else's lives and that's not okay either.

Sarah Palin was not the person who got knocked up though.  If her daughter had been running for office then she would have been fair game.

People even went as far as saying that the youngest Pailin child (Trig, I think) was not really Sara's kid but was really the product of Bristol, the alleged slut.

They did that with Sanford too?  They did that with Larry Craig and a couple of other Repubs who got in compromising positions.

You serious?  Did you mean that one of your country's major news sources has repeatedly sought to pretend that Republicans caught in flagrante were actually Democrats?  This is Fox "fair and balanced" News?

Ah.. I get it now: not enough Democrats have been having affairs, so in order to provide "balance", they have to say that some of the Republican politicos were blue (in politics as well as behaviour) to provide balance.  I guess it's the fault of the general public if they're too stupid to realize they're being lied to ::)

but wasn't bristol herself actively advocating abstinence though? we all know the popular media are viltures so it was rather foolish to throw them so much carrion. particulary since as abstinants, the palins presumably had their animal urges under complete control.

Is my position clear now?

it's the old double standard.  Sarah can get on stage, drag her kids out in front of the audience and use them as a prop during her campaign.  If one of them is almost adult age and does something that goes against what the campaign was pushing, well, don't ya know, that just isn't supposed to be on the table.

here's some more examples of her "wisdom"

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=8016906&page=1

But as for whether another pursuit of national office, as she did less than a year ago when she joined Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the race for the White House, would result in the same political blood sport, Palin said there is a difference between the White House and what she has experienced in Alaska. If she were in the White House, she said, the "department of law" would protect her from baseless ethical allegations.

"I think on a national level, your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out," she said.

There is no "Department of Law" at the White House.

there's a dept. of Justice, and it's not really part of the White House.  Part of that whole pesky separation of powers nonsense I doubt she knows about, Bush apparently never knew about it either.  You would think such a fundamental lack of knowledge of how the government works would disqualify her for most people, but then again I have a feeling most people don't know more than she does.

It would be disgraceful if anybody really thought FOX was a "major news source."  If you've never seen FOX News, take your dodgiest Tory tabloid rag and picture what it would be like as a television news network, and you've basically got the equivalent of FOX.  I'm not kidding.

News "objectivity" is a thing of the past anyway.  In the U.S. "objectivity" was really more of a pragmatic policy than an idealistic one.  It stemmed from the founding of the Associated Press in the mid-19th century and grew more important with the development of teletype in the early 20th.  If newspapers were going to print stories from a shared pool, then it was practical for reporters to show as little bias as possible any newspaper could use the story regardless of that paper's editorial slant.  The same was applied to radio and television.  What the "objectivity" standard did was force editors to insist reporters refrain from writing stone bullsh*t.  That's all gone now thanks to the crass commercialization of "news" itself (which was helped along by the Reagan administration throwing out the Fairness Doctrine, but that's a whole other story).  Now any azzhole with a computer and a bit of spare time can start a blog and call it "news."

But (a bit like the Sun over here) it is still a major news source, in that a ridiculously large number of people use it as the source of their news.  There are people do believe what they read in the Sun (and the Mail, even the Telegraph has its rather dodgy stories), and I wouldn't mind there's people who believe that Fox is fair, balanced and a news-reporting station.

People have a tendency to believe things that reinforce their prejudices.. I think Bertrand Russell said something along those lines (well, I know he did, but I've quoted it quite enough times recently)

It's not his voice so much as what he says.  Limbaugh had cred as a talented broadcaster.  He had a superb radio voice and impeccable presentation.  That was the old days.  The dope eats away at his on-air presentation.  It's not what it was a decade ago.  I've done a radio program for 15 years.  When the light goes on and you gotta talk, it's a whole lot tougher than it sounds.  Mind you, Limbaugh has the best producers and engineers money can buy and if he's not in his right mind, they can spoonfeed it to him and he'll parrot what he hears -- even so, the guy had the chops.  Not just anyone can do that.  As for the content of his program, it's pure vomit-worthy swill.

Franken, on the other hand, does not have a voice for radio.  When he was on Air America, his nasal/guttural low tone got really annoying after a while.  It mattered not that I agreed with him most of the time.
