Subject: When did free health care, become evil?

Just curious, if anyone has an answer.

If people really took the time to understand how it works in other countries, I think there would be less panic about it. There are many people who are now convinced that we are heading for communism, when nothing of the sort is happening. We have always had a hybrid of socialism and free market here, but lots of people forget that.

Food stamps, Medicare/Medicade, TANFF and other social programs are semi-socialist already. Subsidized health care would provide a safety net for people who have nothing. I am sure it will not be so good that the population who are using it will want to keep it forever, but if it helps them to not have to wait until they go to the emergency room to get treated, that will save BOO-KOO bucks down the road when the cost of those unpaid visits is passed on to those who are fortunate enough to have insurance.

I think it will give people an incentive to work to get a better plan while keeping them healthy enough to work, attend school, or whatever else they need.

People are so sure it's evil and it will spike our taxes because they don't take the time to study how it works, and it's something new to America. We all know that change bites the big one.

People, in my opinion, can be idiots.  I cannot believe that we live in a society that thinks it is alright to deny medical care to people, some would even extend that to babies.  They don't want to put the blame on the health care industry for the out of control costs, but they are perfectly willing to fault the everyday working person for not being able to afford it.

Socialized medicine and things such as public assistance have been seen in the United State as for lazy people who want to live off the system.  The logic being I work for everything why can't you get off your lazy ass and do the same thing.  Of course they fail to mention the U.S. is in the worst economic situation since the Great Depression and the hard working folks are losing their jobs.  Nah, it's much easier to blame laziness.

I have a job, and socialized assitance, and can only afford rent due to it. I am also, the least lazy person out there.

They are willing, to let people on social assistance, who are poor, near death, or children, die because they are too damn lazy, to get off their butts, to earn a paycheck?

>:(

Now, you all know why I am mad, at protesters, who rather let people die, then be able tolet them  pay expensive medical bills, and get insurance companies off their backs, because they can afford their high premiums.

Now, who is being the evil, cold, heartless bastard?

...when insurance corporations decided to spend a million a day on ads and speeches against healthcare reform.

This country is essentially owned by banks, insurance corporations, and the military industrial complex.

From each according to ability, to each according to need...

The Righties go nuts about the second part.  They hear the word "need," and it's like sharks to blood in the water.  I'm talking more about the first part.

There is so much strength and ability in people, and the so-called "free market" has no use for it because they only care about making a few people super rich.

I'm not asking for "free" health care.  There is no such thing.  The problem isn't that people are lazy (as the Right like to say), it's that we organize society on a corporate model that requires many of us to be unemployed, and a great deal more to be underemployed and working for wages that don't cover the bills.  Meanwhile, CEOs of health insurance companies make eight-figure salaries.

They way we've arranged our economy doesn't allow for a safe and decent life for everybody because we call it morally correct for the richest 1% of the people to be richer than 95% of the population combined.

Such a system is doomed.

And for whatever ungodly reason, a large portion of that 95% think this is right, and that the poor 1% work hard for their money.  That is the part I find most difficult to understand

No, they are not.  They are very mislead by our entire education system, ideology and media into beveling that "we are all in this together", that there are no class differences, and that trickle down leads to more than getting pissed on.

I agree with you on that, but I stand by my original claim.  The average person isn't very bright.  The majority of a society's accomplishments can be credited to effective leadership, because the majority of any populace is only as good as its leaders.

Funny debate on health care between Alan Colmes and Stossel the Ossel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bonnkW1PymE

Colmes: As you point out, most Canadians are happy with their healthcare.
Stossel:  Most of 'em aren't sick!

So there!

My concerns is this health care reform taxes too much, the government will get involved too much in people's medical decisions, and a shortage of doctors.

I mean it doesn't matter of your're a liberal, a conservative, or an Independent you know we need health care reform but not what the House Bill proposes. I wish we could do it piece by piece first before doing this big overhaul that Washington wants do now in the start of an economic recovery.

Government already does.

Actually the bill does propose health care reform which is why we have this mythical scare tactic called "death-panels".
