Subject: Arenas and Crittendon Banned "For rest of NBA Season"

Written By: LyricBoy on 01/27/10 at 5:52 pm

Just read that the two NBA players who drew weapons on each other in the locker room, apparently over a gambling debt dispute, have been suspended for the rest of the season.

Arenas could effectively be out of commission for even longer if he receives a hard-core sentence for his felony conviction.

So here is my question for y'all...

In any workplace that I've been in, if two guys (a) brought weapons to work, and (b) drew them in any sort of dispute, they would have immediately and permanently been fired and that would be that.

Do you think the NBA was "soft" on these two guys? ???

Even the sh*ttiest player the NBA makes more in a year than I'll make in a lifetime.  Playing in the NBA used to be a dream come true for every underprivileged kid hustling a basketball up and down the court in high school.  Now even a six-figure salary and a spot on an NBA team ain't enough?  WTF?

Is the NBA being soft on those punks?  Hell yeah!  Pro sports organizations need a zero tolerance policy for thuggish behavior such as gambling and illegal bearing of firearms.  That means a clause in the contract stating suspension without pay until the matter is settled.  If the player is convicted, it should require immediate termination of the contract and lifetime expulsion from the organization even if the courts let him off easy.  If a player is exonerated of the charges, as in wrongly accused, then reinstatement of contractual privileges with back pay is in order.

Remember "Say it ain't so, Joe"?  Shoeless Joe Jackson hung his head in shame.  Today's "athletes" would have pistol-whipped that kid!

Unfortunately athletes today are put on a pedestal and held to a different standard and it's a dang shame.

Gambling is thuggish?  Have you seen what professional poker players usually look like?

Threatening violence over money that you don't need is very thuggish though, so Arenas got off very easy and he knows it.
