Subject: Tea Party Protesters Scream N*word at Black Congressman

Written By: danootaandme on 03/20/10 at 6:20 pm

Really, is anyone surprised?

www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/03/20/90772/rep-john-lewis-charges-protesters.html

WASHINGTON — Demonstrators outside the Capitol, angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted "n*****" Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.

The protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, lawmakers said.

"They were shouting, sort of harassing," Lewis said. "But, it's okay, I've faced this before. It reminded me of the 60s. It was a lot of downright hate and anger and people being downright mean.".....

....Protestors also used a slur as they confronted Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., an openly gay member of Congress. A writer for Huffington Post said the crowd called Frank a "f****t."

Frank told the Boston Globe that the incident happened as he was walking from the Longworth office building to the Rayburn office building, both a short distance from the Capitol. Frank said the crowd consisted of a couple of hundred of people and that they referred to him as 'homo.'

"I'm disappointed with the unwillingness to be civil," Frank told the Globe. "I was, I guess, surprised by the rancor. What it means is obviously the health care bill is proxy for a lot of other sentiments, some of which are perfectly resonable, but some of which are not."

"People out there today, on the whole, were really hateful," Frank said. "The leaders of this movement have a responsbility to speak out more."

heh, I was just going to post that too.

Sadly the protest of the 7 year anniversary of the start of the Iraq war has gone virtually unreported.  Armed police watched them, and apparently ignored the Tea Party Nutbags because I guess they knew which group was most likely armed and which one wasn't.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) issued a statement late Saturday saying that he was spit upon while walking to the Capitol to cast a vote, leading the Capitol Police to usher him into the building out of concern for his safety. Police detained the individual, who was then released because Cleaver declined to press charges.

Ask teabaggers exactly what they oppose in the health bill legislation and they can't tell you.  All they do is rant and rave and scream Socialism which most can't spell let alone know what it is.  They can't even reference what their objecting to in the bill.  As for calling people racial slurs, did they ever stop to think this will only make a person vote for the bill.

Not sure about the tea bag party's motivations, but my Democratic representative has announced that he is voting AGAINST the bill.

Why? Because he sees nothing in the bill that reduces costs, and he sees the bill eroding Medicare services.

Passage of this bill is the result of a lowest-common-denominator approach which is guaranteed to cause insurance rates to RISE, taxes to INCREASE, and the deficit to INCREASE.

More interestingly, the most "popular" parts of it do not even kick in for anothe 4 years if I understand correctly.

Pass or fail... this whole issue is going to result in Republican election landslides all over the place this coming November, and it could well doom Obama's chances at a second term.

no, it's because he's a Blue Dog.  a Democrat who got elected in a Republican trending state. The bill could promise free ice cream and puppy dogs to everyone in the country, but it the Republicans said no way, he'd chime in that he thought it was a bad bill.

pass or fail, the Dems still have 6 months to go before the elections and plenty of time to pass bills that make them look more favorable.  The Republicans have feared this bill for 20 years.  It's not going to be the train wreck they make it out to be, their only hope is to bad mouth the hell out of it and hope to pick up seats before the true effects of the bill can be seen.  When the world doesn't cease to turn because health care companies aren't reaping gigantic windfalls, the Republicans will be screaming about gay marriage or abortion in hopes they can keep their fan base riled up enough to keep them voting for them.

Tea Partiers are pricks, but then again...  so is Frank.

no he just likes them.

So Mike Doyle didn't vote for it.  Mike Doyle is a well known blue dog democrat so it doesn't surprise me that he didn't vote for the bill.

apparently there was a giant anti-immigration rally yesterday... so I guess that's the next issue to try and hang on Obama.  Weird how silent they were about it until the Dems took hold of the House and Senate in '06.

Hmmm screams N* Word? Is this bad language? yes.  ....but than again black people and hispanic people use the N Word. The rappers all use it in their songs since the mid 1990's. Its just bad when white people use the N* word. Would I use the N word though?  No and I am white.

Lindsey Graham is doing the outline on the imnmigration bill along with Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer though so there shouldn;t be any reason for Lindsey Graham to pout....not yet anyway.

You want a list of the innocent crap Palin has feigned offense to in the past year?  We can start with lipstick on a pig and go all the way up to Family Guy.

You think a black person was yelling out to his buddy there?  Lots of double standards exist in the world, this is one of them.  They used it because they know the connotations it still carries.

When was the last time you heard a Black or Hispanic person of any consequence use the N word?
???

(I mean apart from discussing the N word itself, and apart from some clown in the entertainment industry.)

I had thought of answering tv, but his logic is underdeveloped in a pre frontal way and I find that it tends to be useless to try to explain under those circumstances.

Actually I have never heard a black person say it(the N word)unless it was a rapper. As far as a hispanic kid saying it I have heard a hispanic kid saying it when he was talking to his friend.

I was kinda stupid for what I said yesterday about the usage N* Word.

The interesting thing is, whether one says the actual word, or refers to it as "The N*word", the word lives on via reference.

My view?  People who use it make it that much easier to spot the racists via their language.  "Banning" the word makes its intent go away no more than burning books makes ideas go away.

I hear it, but from everyday people.  I don't see how that makes it any less relevant.  It doesn't really matter to me either way though.

If people want to let a single word affect them in a deep and serious way, that's their problem, not mine.

I'm not going to use the word myself, but I also don't really care when it is used by other people.

I have no love for the Tea Partiers either though.  It seems that a large portion of this country's population is either politically correct to the point of absurdity or paranoid and backwoodsy to the point of parody.

Perhaps, Sartre was right...   "Hell is other people...."

Yeah, it was Sartre...or was it Holden Caulfield?
???

Anyway, my emphasis on of any consequence means the N word is used, but it's gutter talk.  You hear kids and thugs use it, that's just about all.
