Federal Judge Finds N.S.A. Wiretapping Program Illegal

A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that the National Security Agency’s warrantless surveillance program was illegal, rejecting the Obama administration’s effort to keep shrouded in secrecy one of the most disputed counterterrorism policies of former President George W. Bush.

shameful of the Obama administration to keep this legal battle going, glad they lost.  Sadly this is not a Supreme Court decision, and I'm sure they'll appeal it so the neocons Bush stuffed the court with will happily overturn this decision.

George W. Bush "Stuffed the court"?

He only appointed two justices in 8 years.  That's hardly "stuffing" it.  Besides, both appointments were confirmed by the Senate (Roberts by a 78-22 vote, and Alito by 58-42 vote).

Obama has already appointed one justice in his first year, and given that Justice Stevens is 89 years old, it is very likely that Obama will have a second appointment in this, his first term.

However, as a Roamin' Catholic, I am quite impressed that 6 of the 9 justices are Catholics.   :)

George W. Bush can stuff it!  He appointed John Roberts, the worst kind of reactionary asshole since Roger Taney! That citizens United decision is up there among the most monumentally bad decisions ever, along with Dred Scott (Blacks are less than a person) and Bush V. Gore (more votes for your guy means fewer votes for our guy)!

Stevens is looking like he's in the doggy bag lately.  Can I get a Futurama head jar for him?

Defendant: Judge not lest thee be judged!
Judge Harold Stone: Kinda puts a damper on the ol' profession, doesn't it!

Yeah I like the whole "Judge not" thing.  Here in PA, whenever some little snot is caught red-handed after having raped, robbed, and murdered like 25 people, and people want his head on a platter, you have these simpering idiots quoting the "who are we to judge" from the Bible.  ::)

"Who are we to judge" refers to judging their soul.  As to judging their behavior, we have all sorts of judges and juries who do that as a matter of law.  And when we choose our friends and colleagues, we certainly are making judgements.  If you remove judgement from the human soul, all you have left is a blob of biological mass.

The people who say "who are we to judge" in those situations are usually people who are related to the perpetrator or simply want to get him off the hook as their way of "sticking it to society".

Yes, there's a difference between judging the immortal soul and judging whether a person broke the laws of society.  There is also the misappropriation of the "judge not" creed by evil-doers.  However, you see where it applies with a guy such as Charles Keating, for example.  Keating was founder of Citizens for Decency through Law.  He had that Irish Catholic hangup about pornography.  He crusaded against Hugh Hefner, Larry Flynt, and so forth.  Yet as evil as pictures of naked ladies were, it was still okay with him to swindle senior citizens out of their life savings via junk bonds (Lincoln Savings, Keating Five).  So Flynt and Hefner saw that and went "A-ha! See, he ain't all that and a bag of chips!"
