Subject: Alvin Greene -- WTF?

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 06/10/10 at 9:12 pm

Meet Alvin Greene, the 2010 Democratic senatorial nominee from South Carolina.

He's 32 years old.  He was involuntarily honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 2009.  He's unemployed.  He lives with his dad.  I'm not ranking on him for his life situation.  A lot of guys out there are struggling.  However, if you want to win a seat in the U.S. senate, you really need to start out with a solid foundation.  Furthermore, he did send some porn pics to an 18-year-old college student last year resulting in felony obscenity charges.  That's a problem.  At least she was 18, but it's still lewd and nasty.

Majority whip Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) suspects the Republicans are secretly funding Greene.  In other words, he's a plant.  When he speaks, he appears to have the intelligence of one!

Is this a joke?  Nah, it's too painful to be a joke!  He sounds like he's being interviewed by Chris Hanson or something!

And he's going up against Jim Demint!

How do you get an involuntary honorable discharge?  Some sort of medical problem?

I saw this guy on Keith last night.

I think part of it is because SC has open primaries-which means that Republicans voted for him. I am sure we are going to hear more & more about this as the weeks go on. It is so obvious that this guy is a plant. How can a guy who doesn't have a job pay everything out of pocket? I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you were to look at his bank statement for the past couple of months, you will see a BIG deposit. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that deposit came from the Demint camp.

How did he just happen to have the $10,000 application fee?  his bank account had exactly $10,400 in it from one of the sources I read online.  He apparently tried to pay it in cash originally and was turned down.

Apparently the Democratic party in South Carolina isn't very well run if this person won the primary in the first place.

Demint's people didn't even make an effort to make a good plant out of the guy, if that is indeed the case.  His responses are evasive and non-specific.  His body language is cagey and nervous like he's trying to hide something.  He reminds me of a kid lying to the cops.  I wouldn't hire the guy to flip burgers!

Yet, he beat the other guy with 58% of the vote?

I smell a rat.

Wherever the money is coming from, it's not in his bank account.  It's probably coming from Demint's coffers.   Maybe Demint doesn't want to have to put up a fight this time around.  I mean, even a strong Democratic candidate is going to lose in SC, but if you're up against Mr. Greene, you can just watch him stumble around and self-destruct.  It's almost sadistic.
::)

Greene might have had a medical discharge from the military.  My grandfather got a medical discharge back in 1943 when he was diagnosed as manic-depressive and thus unfit to serve.  A dishonorable discharge means the soldier willingly broke martial codes.  However, in the case of physical incapacity or mental illness, the army can require the soldier to retire, but the discharge is not considered dishonorable as the cause was nothing the soldier could help.  Greene might be nuts.

I had a medical discharge and was Honorable-so that argument doesn't fly-but you are right that he could be nuts. And yeah, I agree with you that he seems to be hiding something. I think it is going to come out. Wanna start a pool as to WHEN it comes out? Next week? Next month? Personally, I don't think it is going to take very long to find out. Two weeks tops is my guess.

They've got egg yolk on their faces
The Dems are pulling out their hair
Alvin Greene will be glad to see you
They said he hadn't got got a prayer
But he had a prayer and vanquished

(apologies to Marc Cohn)

It's sad to see the Democratic Party and Liberalism dying and us moving to a one party/ideology state

And just think... in Washington the Dems have a sitting President and substantial majorities in both houses and history will show that they squandered the golden opportunity.

And in South Carolina, the Republicans had so much bad press over the past year, the Dems should have had no problem putting up a decisive set of candidates.

Reminds me of the old story of a "Monkey Partying with a Football"

Well the Dems did push Health Care and Stimulus through though.

Yeah but you say the Republicans have had so much bad press in SC of late but at the same time SC is such a red state forget about it.

The thing is...  even if Greene is a plant and Republicans voted him in during an open primary, how did the Democrats voting in this primary not have enough influence to make a real candidate of their own win?...

Did the Democrats just not show up to that primary?

They had some problems with the voting machines.  Those effete liberals are not mechanically inclined, you see!

"It was the alphabetical order of the ballot"

"It was the hanging chad"

"The butterfly ballot made me do it"

"Computers confuse me"

I'm gonna change my name to Arvin Aardvaark, move to SC, and run for Governor on the next go-round.  It'll be a sure thing.  ;D

That doesn't mean you'll get what Mark Sanford got.  Maybe the boys at C Street can hook you up.  BTW, you want Aaron Aardvark just to be double safe.

Good point Max.

I'll file for a name change as soon as I get back from this trade mission in Argentina.  ;)

Make it Afghanistan...well maybe that wouldn't be so good!

Clinton would have wondered, "There's plenty of good-looking dames working in the State House, no reason to fly 5000 miles for a piece of strange!"
