If this rumor (or is that rumour?) is true, that is just so despicable and words can't express my anger and loathing of BP-more so that if the rumor isn't true.

This is old news.  Was originally reported back when the Libyan dude was cut loose.  Guy should have died in prison, and fed to the local livestock.

Local livestock is herbivorous.  The dogs and cats might find him tasty though!

The July 29th investigation isn't "old news"

Nobody said realpolitik was pretty.  They just didn't say it was this ugly.  I love a good conspiracy theory, and whether true or not (and it's very plausible), this is a good conspiracy theory, for any interpretation of "good" you care to attach :)

In a pre-Internet age, the story would have vanished from the front page, and some Libyan newspaper could have printed some sort of "died of cancer" article a few months later, and nobody would have been the wiser.  Or it would simply have been dropped down the memory hole.

The Internet does not work that way.  It bears grudges.  (coincidentally, Ayria's My Revenge on the World just came up on the playlist.  Not that anyone should take a few moments to google it and appreciate some delicious bitterness or anything...)
