Subject: Olbermann Ousted

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 01/21/11 at 10:23 pm

Without explanation MSNBC has ended its contract with Keith Olbermann after a successful eight-year run hosting "Countdown" at 8:00 ET  "Countdown" was one of the network's news commentary programs.  Olbermann was my favorite.

I suspect Olbermann was the first casualty of the NBC-Comcast merger.  O'Donnell and Maddow, watch your butts!

I haven't been posting much lately.  I've been in the grip of some horrific clinical depression.  I've been withdrawn from life over the past few weeks.  However, I felt it was necessary to make this post.

I should also remark I have become rather disenchanted with all cable news lately as none of it, not even Maddow, O'Donnell, or the newly fired Olbermann stands up to the powers that be.  Thus, I'm not as upset about the Olbermann ouster as I might have been a year ago.

Olbermann was fired amid his contract and will be paid about $14 million over the next two years.

CNN should pick him up once they're contractually able to do so.  They won't of course, but they should make a bid.  Olbermann has a great telegenic personality on par with David Letterman and Jon Stewart.  Maybe Comedy Central should pick him up.  Even if he took a 1/2 hour program at a fraction of his previous salary, Olbermann is set for life.  He could do a radio show, but he belongs on television, not radio.

TMZ and Perez Hilton are both going with the Comcast rumor.  Comcast didn't like his "defiance" (defiance of what? They don't say), and they didn't like the way he "played in the sandbox."  I'm sure you'll find more specificity from more reputable sources next week.

I think the sudden firing of Olbermann was Comcast's "Don't **** with the man" message to the rest of the establishment so-called "anti-establishment" upstarts.

He could always do what Bill Maher did.  Get a show on HBO.  There's less censorship on premium channels too.

KomKast is all about the ratings.

Say what one may about Olbermann, he brought decent ratings to MFNBC.  I am guessing that his firing was not over ideology but something else.  KomKast thinks with its wallet.
