Subject: Texas immigration bill has big exception

Written By: ChuckyG on 03/02/11 at 3:28 pm

As proposed, House Bill 1202 would create tough state punishments for those who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire an unauthorized immigrant. Violators could face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

But it is an exception included in the bill that is drawing attention. Those who hire unauthorized immigrants would be in violation of the law -- unless they are hiring a maid, a lawn caretaker or another houseworker.

in other words... go ahead and continue to hire illegals, since this is what most of them are doing already. The only way to make it more ineffective would be to exempt farm workers and restaurant workers as well.

Why don't they just make it easier and say the exceptions would be for only private or public sector jobs but nothing else.

Well, we can't deprive our rich friends of their cheap body servants can we?

For values of "them" that include every politician (or wannabe-politician, dammit, Meg, as CEO of eBay, you should have known better than this before running for Governor of California), and damn near nobody else.  Karma to Carlos for calling it before I got here.
