Subject: Syria and Israel - The Discriminatory Spin Machine

Written By: LyricBoy on 06/05/11 at 9:15 am

So I come across the following link about 5 Syrian protesters who were killed (94 injured) by Israeli forces by crossing over from the Golan Heights.  Reading the articles it appears that they were throwing rocks and trash, and were fought back with lethal force:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110605/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_israel_palestinians

Somehow I doubt that we will see NATO drone raids on Israeli forces to "protect civilian protesters".

Compare this to the coverage of the Syrian uprisings against the Assad regime:

http://www.smh.com.au/world/syrian-uprising-shows-no-sign-of-abating-20110605-1fnb0.html

Seems that when Syrians are shot by their own government they are "pro democracy freedom fighters", but when they are trying to cross over into Israel they are of no consequence.

Mind you... I really do not care for any of the sides in the Middle East, the whole area is paved with bad intentions, lack of respect for human rights, and crimes against humanity.  But it is revealing to see how the American government reacts to the events in motion.

America should walk away from the Middle East and take our pocketbook with us.

They showed news footage of that, with the IDL reported as saying "they were aiming for the legs" - most of the people they were firing at were a) quite a distance away, and b) lying flat once the shooting started.

"Aiming for the legs" sounds like complete and utter bollocks to me.

Yeah the IDF 'accidentally' shot them in the head.  "Oops... sorry guys, my bad...".

Besides, when shooting a gun, regardless of where one claims to be aiming, it is a deadly force situation.

The American administration of course will say nothing critical.  (Well actually there is a glimmer of hope that O'bama might, but the rest of his Admin has kowtowed to Israeli crony campaign funders for decades).

Don't throw soda cans at Israeli soldiers, and don't give 'em no lip either kids.  We want you back home from school alive and well!

And leave them with their oil?

Sure.

Besides, Israel has nothing to do with oil whatsoever.  In fact, if one were to pursue 'oil politics' support of Israel would be seen as counterproductive.

Heck back during Gulf War I, we did everything we could to keep Israel OUT of that war because they were seen as a liability.  Which they were.

In a way I agree with LB that the whole East Asian thing is an utter mess, and in a way I agree with the idea of a plague on both their houses, but I do lean toward the Palestinians, who were displaced.  You know, "A people without a land, a land without a people"  except that the Palestinians were there.

I agree, but what would America know about, uh, illegal settlements backed by military muscle?

Agreed.  What little sentiment I might have for Middle Easterners migh get thrown the way of the Palestinians.

But then I can't reconcile that against the Achille Lauro and a few other pecadillos upon which they embarked upon over the years.  So to quote Cee-Lo: "F them too."
