Written By: Brian06 on 12/18/11 at 10:26 pm

Anybody else here the news yet?

He had been sick for some time now. He was 69.

I wonder if he'll succeed his dead father now as "eternal president".  ::)

Now they, and we, have to deal with Kim Jong-un, and I am thinking the son will be the spoiled unruly son of a tyrannt who thinks even more of himself than his father.

Ten days of (staged) mourning, and then it's back to business as usual. Only the name has changed.

That's what worries me.

Oh wtf....You gotta be kidding, well.......they gotta be kidding.  I'm wondering, are there real tears involved, or it just a staged media show.

Kind of staged... if you say something negative about Kim Jong you and three generations of your family end up in work camps.  You better believe in that situation people are jumping over each other to prove their "loyalty" to the SOB even after he's gone.

Oh what a circus, oh what a show. Korea has gone to town over the death of a dictator named Kim Jong-il.

Ok, I'm not the best parody writing. Maybe someone with better skills at it than me can take over.

Chucky already answered it: "Yes."

There are people in Pyongyang (you don't get to live in Pyongyang unless your family already consists of true believers) who really believe the regime's propaganda.  There are also people in Pyongyang who know that it's all an act, and that if they don't play their part, they'll be exiled to the countryside - or worse, to the camps.

Attempting to distinguish between the two groups is difficult, futile, and hours and hours of fun.

You know a regime is confident in its own power when it doesn't care whether its citizens are perceived by the outside world as obedient out of fear or out of conviction.  The women at 1:17 (and 0:42) appear absolutely terrified, and I'm calling the smiles of the couples at 0:50-0:54 as fake.  But many of them might be sincere; even if the dude in the suit knows damn well he's on a camera for a propaganda film, the people in Pyongyang represent North Korea's 1%.

Obligatory Pop Culture Reference: Just what the hell was the original video (before its transmutation into a YouTube meme :) celebrating?  It was originally propaganda footage for the the 75th anniversary of the founding of the KPA ("Korean" "People's" Army, hey, one outa three ain't bad!), April 25, 2007 (see t=2m45s).

I don't wanna watch the video.  It's too grotesque...even for me, and that's saying something.

This guy was a sports LEGEND!  :o  ::)

http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Jong+golfing+accomplishments+will+never+repeated/5883374/story.html

But then, along came Kim Jong-il and one incredible day in 1994, when the Dear Leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea picked up a golf club for the very first time, and — as witnessed by 17 security guards and reported by the state news agency — shot a smooth 38-under-par round of 34, including 11 holes-in-one.

And never again played the game

Apparently he also bowled a 300 in his first and only game of bowling, according to state media of course.  :o

http://gawker.com/5869210/giant-rabbits-and-double-rainbows-the-10-most-insane-delusions-of-kim-jong+il

"1. North Korean schools teach children that Jong-il's birth was "supernatural." He was born in a log cabin inside a secret base on the sacred Mt. Paekdu, the story goes, and his arrival was accompanied by the apparition of a new star. The seasons then spontaneously changed from winter to spring, and a double-rainbow appeared, followed by a talking iceberg."

"3. State textbooks claim Jong-il does not produce urine or feces" WTF?!?  ;D

And was his birth marked by the arrival of three men baring the gifts of gold, frankincense & myrrh?

the last bit is pretty amazing too.

10. Kijong-Dong is a city built in the 1950s by Kim's father, set on the border as an example to South Korea of their superiority. No one lives there, but every effort was made to make it function like an actual city. The buildings have no glass in the windows and no rooms: They are just concrete shells. It's also home to the world's largest flagpole.

i also am curious to see a propaganda film made by KJI's captive moviemaker people. I bet those are a hoot.

In fact, suddenly I'm sorry he's dead. If he ran for an independent here in the US, i might vote for him.

However on the subject of bodily fluids, the Korean textbooks also state that Kim was the Peter North of the North, once being inadvertently responsible for flooding an entire block.  ;D

Owe ya Karma for beating me to the punch.  Meanwhile, the world's greatest golfer (or more precisely, some awesome South Korean artist, judging from the Burger King ad in the background) has a little something for Marilyn Monroe fans...

It was a tossup between putting it here and in the Wrongest Thread Ever, and then I realized we've got tons of WTF in the WTE, but not enough WTF on the KJI.  R(ot)IP, KJI, (but thanks) for bringing the WTF!

North Korea begins two days of funeral services for late leader Kim Jong-il with a huge procession in Pyongyang led by successor Kim Jong-un.
