Subject: Canadian Pop Culture Is Sometimes Curious...

Seems that the name of the venerable Canadian magazine, The Beaver, is going to be changed because of the alternative "street slang" meaning of its title after nearly 90 years of publication.

Canadians will never cease to amaze me.   :)

I live in Beaver County PA.  Our county seat is in Beaver Borough.  We also have Beaver Falls City, Big Beaver Borough, and South Beaver Township.  Penn State's Beaver Campus calls our county its home, and the local community college is the Community College of Beaver County... CCBC or "Cucka Bucka" to we locals.   Amongst our waterways are the Beaver River (which flows into the Ohio River), and Little Beaver Creek.

But as opposed to our friends to the North, we have never even thought of changing our name.   ;D

In a town very close to me, the place where Avril Lavigne is from, their local paper is known as 'The Beaver'.  The Beaver is on our Nickel, and there was once a popular clothing line here known as Beaver Canoe.

The Beaver is everywhere, and not just in porno films ;D

Ward is sometimes a little hard on the Beaver, and she tells him so...

I have actually been to Beaver Falls, PA. Stayed at the Holiday Inn.

Famous lake on Mt Royal in Montreal is Beaver lake. I'm pretty sure some couple have gone in there at some point and..well...

Ah, yes, the famed Beaver Falls Holidome.  8)

In my younger days I tossed back quite a few brewskis in their bar.  ;D

Hey, that was my joke in another thread, although I said she liked it.  But to the topic, Canada could have had British culture, French cuisine, and U.S. technology.  What did it get?  French technology, British cuisine, and U.S. culture - to bad.

Toronto has the US culture. (or tries to imitate the US)  The rest of Canada stays away  ;)

And Cat could be Dona (with a tilde) Cat, or dona Gato.
