Subject: The New Songs / New Artists Thread (2010 Edition)

Written By: whistledog on 04/30/10 at 9:40 am

Great new songs for 2010.  Here is a few ...

Kardinall Offishall featuring Akon - Body Bounce
The great Akon and his 3rd collaboration with Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall.  Their first two:  'Dangerous' (2008) and 'Beautiful' (featuring Colby O'Donis, 2009) were both International smash hits, so could this one be set to repeat that feat?  It already peaked at #29 in Canada

Audio Playground - (A Little) Respect
Dance music from Canada.  It's rising faster than ever.  Audio Playground are from Alberta and this is an electronic cover of the Erasure classic '(A Little) Respect'.  It's new in the Canadian Chart at #82.

McLean - My Name
British R&B singer, Anthony McLean, the brother of Soccer star Aaron McLean and nephew of 90s singer Bitty McLean.  This song made UK #10 in March, and I really hope it makes waves in North America.  This is good music.  It sounds like it's based on Classical music, sort of like the often used 'Pachbel's Cannon'

That Akon and McLean songs don't do it for me, but I like the Erasure cover.

Not sure if you already know these, but anyway...

Stromaé - Alors On Danse
Stromaé is Belgian singer/songwriter Paul van Haver. His song was already a hit in parts of Europe,
and has now finally hit Dutch Top 40 (new entry at #8). Reminds me of Faithless, this.

Loneliness 2010 - Tomcraft
Did this really need a remix? I'm not sure.

Ritmo Du Meu Flow - Flow 212 feat. DJ Overule and Rusty
Not really new... already two years old, but it's only now entered our bubbling under section.

I didn't know about the latter two, but I do know Alors on Danse.  It's currently at #62 in Canada.

Wasn't too keen on the 2010 Loneliness, though it did have it's moments.  The music in Ritmo Du Meu Flow is very good.

It's quite catchy, isn't it?
Did you know his stage name is a derivation of Maestro?

Those moments being the original parts...?

It could become a massive hit, much like "Rap Das Armas" a year ago.

Stacey Q- Pandora's Box

The new single from Stacey Q's latest album "Color Me Cinnamon"
haha does she really need an introduction? :D She was pretty much a one hit wonder with
her major hit "Two of Hearts" in 1986. She had moderate hits and dance hits after that but that was
pretty much it. She's back with a new album and single, though. :)

Sorry, doesn't sound like a hit to me (but I have been wrong before). Is this the single version? ??? It gets pretty annoying after a while.

I was not aware of that.  That's kind of Limahl-ish of him to do that.  It's cool 8)

Being a BIG fan of the original, it may take me a while to get used to it as it is quite a change.  Is it him remixing it himself?

Apparently, there's a kind of French speak, known as verlan, that interchanges entire syllables of a word to form a new word. Thus, 'mae-stro' becomes 'stro-maé', and 'femme' becomes 'meuf' (as explained in the article).

Even though I criticize "Rihanna" alot on these boards for making "bubblegum music" with no message to it I think "Russian Roulette" by her is one of the best songs of the year. I have to give credit to where credit is due.
