Subject: Hats

Written By: Ryan112390 on 06/09/10 at 12:57 am

Does anyone see hats, I mean as in fedoras and the like, coming back into popularity amongst men this decade? I've seen quite a few guys around campus wearing some, as well as some women wearing the widebrimmed summer hats.

In Australia I often see women wearing wide brimmed hats (especially in summer)...as we have the highest rate of skin cancer over here. Men wear hats (and caps) in summer as well. I've seen some younger guys wearing those smaller hats (like Justin Timberlake wears). Basically, they are useless hats...more a fashion assessory than of a useful purpose.

Sept 15 is the last day in the year when you can wear a straw hat.

I hope so.

I've always liked fedoras, but it seems like you can't wear one these days without looking totally pretentious. I hope that will change someday.  ;)

I tried on a fedora the other day and it was way too small for my giant melon.  Bummed me out dude...

My dad wears a cap every single day to hid his bald spot.  ;D He's like Dale Gribble, but without the ciggies, cheating wife and paranoia about the goevernment and aliens. LOL.

I don't really wear hats, except in winter to help keep me warm. And my BF wears a cap with a Prince symbol on it from time to time. (I hate it) The only time I really wear hats is if I'm in a pageant.

I have a Michael Jackson fedora, but I never wear it. It looks AWFUL on me.  ;D

^ Sharp dressed man!

I love guys in suits and fedoras.  I used to have (what I called a fedora, but maybe it wasn't, I dunno.)  I got it not long after Duran Duran came out with Hungry Like a Wolfe, I always called it my "Simon LeBon hat".  I'd wear it to school dances and teen dances my local radio station would sponsor.  (Ahhh...those were the days...)

I love hats, wish they would come back in style.  The Easter Parade of Hats in NYC  is famous, as are the hats of the Kentucky Derby.  When people used to dress for church a ladies hat was her most prized possession. Love the hats.

That's right chica!  I donned that fedora just prior to the new decade so that makes me a trendsetter!  http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/07/pimpflash.gif

I still see that around here.  The people that go to church dress to the nines, men in suits, spotless shoes, hats, etc.  The women are usually in dresses, with heels and hats in place, hair and nails done, etc.  Makes me feel I shouldn't be so lazy on Sunday mornings. ;D

And did your Dad where a straw hat every day, or only out working in the field?  Must be a PA thing.  I don't remember anybody wearing a straw hat unless it was part of a costume.

My Dad wore a greasy old engineer's cap when he was doing work around the place, usually shuffling around in moccasins or work boots grumbling profanity.  Sometimes he wore his beloved porkpie hat when we went out driving or boating...and he'd be grumbling profanity then too!

My brother still has his lucky Red Sox cap he's had since 8th grade.  It's held together with duct tape and it's totally nasty-looking...but it's his lucky Red Sox cap nonetheless.

I've always gone hatless, except when the winter chill necessitates one.  I always thought hats made me look even more elfish, but maybe I'll start wearing a hat since I could give less of a crap what the opposite sex thinks how I look anymore!

I've always gone hatless,

Suspect is hatless, repeat, hatless.

But if it ever comes back into fashion (and I don't think it will), I shall acquire a porkpie hat.

Alot of the ladies in my church STILL wear hats like that. When I'm 30, I'll wear hats like that.

In the old days, a lady also wore gloves when she went out in public.  That goes back to the '50s and before.  It died out with my grandparents' generation, I think.
