I knew California would come up with this idea first; but I fear this could spread worldwide! This ad creep thing has gone too far just in the past 10 years. First you have my flashy ads on vehicles that look like they came from a magazine; then you had the digital, flashing, sometimes animated billboards passing by that can be especially distracting at night, and now, you could have a hodgepodge of ads on the road if you're stuck in rush hour traffic. Uuuuuugggghh!!!

But worst of all, imagine what vandals/hackers could do!

People spend so much time reading these ads on cars, they don't pay attention to the road, and then whammo, a 10 car pileup.

It could never work.

Let's see, 20 years ago, I thought it was horrifying to see people talking on the phone while they were driving.  There were only a few cellular phones and rich guys owned most of them.  The nightmare scenario, I thought, was if cell phones got cheap enough for everybody to have them, you would have highways full of accidents because of stupid people yacking away on the phone and not watching the road.  Thank God THAT didn't happen!

20 years ago cell phones were about the size of bricks.

In those days, they were called Car Phones lol
So true though, you only ever saw them in Rolls Royces or Limos, cars that you had to be Donald Trump to afford

I remember back in 1975, a buddy's Dad was a big wheel at the local zinc and lead smelting plant.

He, too, had a car phone.  It was a rotary-dial "princess" phone mounted on the transmission hump, and then there was this big "whip" antenna bolted to the trunk lid of his car.

That was sooooooooooooooo cool.. 8)

Yeap, if its not the Japanese, it would be California trying to be ahead in the future of everyone.

I'm not sure about flashing ads, but I think that it would be cool if licence plates had animation to represent each state.

You know that special feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you know the blue lights are for you?  Now you can make other people feel like that all the time!

Yes, if I could put any ad up on anybody else's license plate, it would look something like this.

Even if it didn't have anything to do with cell phones.

Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it.

That's in Atlanta, isn't it? I knew that 11-Alive looked familiar.

Are you suggesting that perhaps there are people for whom part of their digestive tract might be opened inappropriately wide?

Because this is still a thread about what to do if remotely-downloadable ads ever appear on license plates, and that's the angle I was taking :)
