The grocery chain operator has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy according to news reports.

A&P also owns Pathmark. I hope that this does not affect Howard's store too much. :-\\

A&P doesn't have more than a few stores left in all of New England. There might be none left by now. A&P used to be everywhere. Hannaford's (sp.) is what I see more and more from Upstate NY through NH. The last one I remember was in Peterborough, NH, and I'm pretty sure that's gone. The major chains in my area Stop & Shop and Big Y are, I suspect, trying Hannaford out. I know of at least one dead mall getting paid to stay dead by the major grocery chains around here. I don't know the facts, I just know the allegations, and as Jesse Jackson said,
I not only deny the allegations, I deny the alligator!

They filed for Chapter 11 but I think some Pathmarks(maybe ours)could survive under a Chapter 11 maybe about a year.

Well 5 years later, Pathmark has filed for Chapter 11 and now Stop N Shop will be taking over in the next few months. Right now, they're getting everything off the shelves for the new store. Tomorrow, I have an orientation but first I have to fill out an application then I'm off to the Stop N Shop for the orientation.

Glad to hear you are keeping your job, Howard. :)
What happened with Pathmark, did people stop going there? ???

That's not the reason, they just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy cause they weren't doing much business.

A&P was too expensive. Even when they had sales, I could find the same product elsewhere at a much cheaper price.
The only time I ever shopped A&P was when I needed stuff and it was all that was open

Jason, Did you ever notice going into any Pathmark and the appearance was a bit sloppy?

I only tried to shop for the cheap stuff, everything else was a bit expensive. I only looked for things on-sale.
