Here's the top 50 most popular songs of 2010. Some of them are actually holdovers from 2009 that still retained popularity in 2010. Definitely a dance and pop heavy year - even the Rap music is very pop-rap. Of course, most pop culture observers probably already knew this.
For comparison here's the top 50 most popular songs of 2007. Definitely dated:
2007 Songs 50-26: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpjwn_j2Vm8
2007 Songs 25-1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTOh15ohCZU&feature=related

In 2010 there's only 1 rock (?!) song and thats "Hey, Soul Sister". A lost year for rock.

2010 had an incredibly slow start musically. 2009 holdovers completely dominated until at least April. That said I don't understand how "Whatcha Say" made this list. That song was a big summer hit in 2009 and had almost disappeared by the new year. Same with Down by Jay Sean and "I've Got A Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. Anything that peaked before November 2009 at the earliest should not be part of this list.

Which is probebly a good thing proving that Post-grunge is finally dead.

There's "Breakeven" too that's more rock than "Hey Soul Sister" is probably.

Yeah wow. In 2007 top 40 was much more urban sounding compared to today.

"Breakeven" is from 2008 and "Hey, Soul Sister" is from 2009. Damn its worse than I thought. :(

I realize you like Post-Grunge and all Creeder, but 2010 may be one of the best things to happen to Rock music. For the first time in SIXTEEN years, Rock somewhat progressing. Did we have Nu-Metal and Emo take away some of Post-Grunge's popularity? Yes, but Post-Grunge was ALWAYS there and always kept beating out competition while staying on the Top 40 radio. Whether you like it or not, Electronic Rock and Indie Rock are going to surpass Post-Grunge in 2011 and 2012.

Well, if I had to choose between Gaga and some big electronic rock band, of course I would choose the rock band. I just want rock to be big again and to change music history like it did so many times in the past.

Rock goes through highs and lows. The reason people hated the disco era so much was that rock was de-emphasized during that period. We are in another time like that. Just be patient and it should come back in some form or another.

So I went scrounging around Youtube and found out what singles were popular in other countries. Here's some of the videos that can give us a nice window into what's popular around the world.
Top 50 Singles in Canada: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AktGcVs3PNk
Top 50 Singles in South Korea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drn-BN7LL18 (Korean music is now the most popular type of music in much of Asia)
Top 100 Singles in Japan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6W-VV-A1-E (second largest music industry in the world is in Japan. Top 10 is a little ridiculous: only two groups have all the top ten spots.)
I couldn't find a video for the top British music for some reason. Could find them for specific weeks, but not one for 2010 as a whole. While the music of each country is different, there is one common theme: 2010 was a great year for pop music and a bad year for rock music in terms of popularity. This seems to be the scenario in most of the world.

It's kind of funny, apart from the haiti benefit song 'Wavin' Flag', Justin Bieber did not have a single song in that list, yet Drake had 1.
I guess in that whole Drake vs. Justin Bieber (who is the better Canadian talent), we know who came out on top.
