True!

Either the ratings will drop far enough for the network to cancel or Dan Castellana, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, and/or Yeardley Smith will quit or croak.  That will spell the end.

I think the show itself jumped the shark about 10 years ago.

I predict the show will wind down later this decade.

I can't see it lasting that much longer. It hasn't been relevant in what, 5-10 years?

I'd like to see The Simpsons run for a little while longer, or atleast 29 seasons, just so it can surpass Gunsmoke's episode count and officially be the longest running Prime Time TV show in American Television Broadcast History.

When The Simpsons become old and gray.
In the normal episode of The Simpsons, they do never age.

Why?  It's a cartoon...they don't have to age.

I actually hope it ends soon. When I mean soon I mean in at most in 10 years! They dragged the show out of steam long ago.

It should NEVER end.

Simpsons are currently like Garfield comics, it has the malleability to last a very long time, and would only need current pop culture refenences and events to fuel the writers with new ideas.  Besides, the Simpsons are part of American Culture, why hate on that?

You do have a point in the sense it has lasted so long, it's almost more than a sitcom or show, it's like a long-running comic strip. Peanuts, after all, lasted from 1950 to 2000!  :o

There have been a couple, usually episodes with future predictions.  They don't age normally, though.

How old is Homer/Marge/Bart/Lisa/Maggie Simpson?
Homer is 36, Marge 34, Bart 10, Lisa 8, and Maggie 1.

Should that be Homer 61,Marge 59,Bart 35,Lisa,33,Maggie 26? Since the show has been airing for almost 25 years. ???

No, because it is just a cartoon and the writers don't age them.

The thing about those cartoons is that they can always keep up with pop-culture, current events, and trends/fads.

I kinda thought it started in 1986 after The Tracey Ullman Show.

It actually started during the Tracy Ullman Show as cartoon shorts.  Tracy Ullman started in 1987.  The actual show started in 1989.  It depends on how you look at it.  They have either been around for 24 years or 22 years.

The fact that The Simpsons is still on the air and popular today is like if Full House was still on the air and popular now.

What, Full House? All the kids would be grown up by now. This also includes Jesse and Becky's twin sons Nicky and Alex, who would be turning 20 this year.

Bob Saget still doesn't look very different today. I suppose they could have continued Full House, maybe by splitting it into a few different spinoffs.

Actually, Joey wasn't the uncle; Jesse was. However, if he had married Danny's sister Wendy (who he dated in a Season 5 episode), then he would've become an uncle.

But yeah, even at age 50+, he'd probably still maintain his kiddie persona. :D

I think it will keep going as long as the ratings continue and they keep winning awards. Just think, while I say the best episodes were in seasons 4-9 the kids watching today will think that these are the best episodes and talk about it and keep the show going. If I had to put a year on it, I would say 2024 as the final season, with another movie to close out the series.
