Looks like The Man finally caught up with Whitey Bulger.

He had one heck of a good run though.

I woke up to this and it is second to osama for fantastic, an all day adrenalin rush. 

I'm waiting to hear Max's take on this.  Whitey was one of Max's home boys.    ;D

I used to work at the courthouse in Boston.  After he got out of jail his brother Billy got him a job as a janitor there WITH ALL THE KEYS to all the offices!  I was on the night shift and a couple of times a janitor showed up with the janitor(who showed up every night).  The real janitor would let us into the jury day room to use the coke machine, the other guy(Bulger) would take his keys and go into the judges office then leave.  I met him maybe twice, the ultimate no show job, and open access to the judges chambers.

I'm glad they caught the sonofabitch alive.  He's wanted for 19 murders.  I thought he was going to lay low in California until he expired and beat the rap.  He still might beat the rap.  The Winter Hill Gang caused a lot of hurt and misery around Boston.  Billy Bulger is also a thug.  They made him UMass president, which used to tick me off because he'd sit up there in his grand office smugly knowing where Whitey was...and knowing we knew he knew where White was...but he was such a bigshot in the state, he didn't have to snitch.  

There are some Bostonians who still think this sh*theels is a folk here.  He was just a horrible punk like his pal Steve "The Rifleman" Flemmi.

I hope the next time Whitey gets out of the hoosegow he'll be wearing a pine overcoat!

They're going to have to keep him in protective custody.  A lot of folks want him dead, if not to settle an old score then to be the hero who whacked Whitey. 

You can also bet there are many people sighing relief knowing Whitey's in custody.  You make an enemy of Whitey, you best learn to sleep with one eye open.

Most of them are retired or dead by now.  Whitey was a fink for the FBI going back to the mid-seventies.  I suspect the feds knew where Whitey was and were biding their time waiting for the right moment to bust him.  Whitey might have guessed they were watching him and perhaps was tired of the game.  It seems a little strange for Whitey to fall for the old "candygram for Mongo" trick. 

He might rat for leniency.  However, he is 81 years old and the most notorious mobster caught since Gotti.  They're not going to dump him in general population.  He wouldn't live 24 hours.  I reckon he and his lawyers will fashion some kind of plea for Whitey to go to a medium-security club fed with special guard detail so he doesn't get whacked.  My guess is he'll get sick and die in the clink in a few years or get special medical release under house arrest.  Either way, he's not going to do time like a run-of-the-mill slob.

Back about 10 years or so ago, I used to do alot of work in Detroit and, as the situation in that town, if you're gonna do much business you'll run across a few, uh, shady characters.  My characters were both Italian and Russian.  All of my business was straight as an arrow and there was never any funny stuff.  But nobody in that town at that time would have dared screw with me, thats for sure.

A couple years ago my former employer was getting ready to sue me (for something, by the way, that I never did) but he was talked out of it by an associate of mine who told them "LyricBoy has some friends who would be VERY unhappy if you messed with him."

That stuff still went on, but nothing, from a barroom brawl to a bank heist went on without an okay from Whitey.  He stopped activity because it wasn't beneficial to him to have things going on while he was around, but the business owners all paid for that quiet, it's called protection, one of the oldest games in the book.

Jimmy Kelly is the guy HOLDING Ted Landsmark as Joseph Rakes goes after him with the American Flag.  Jimmy Kelly was a member of the Mullens gang(Irish Mafia) and became a became city councillor representing Southie rising to President of the City Council.  They named what was the Broadway Bridge, from the South End to Southie after him.  Isn't that nice.

That said, I'm still glad they got 'im.  I honestly thought he'd bought off enough Feds over the course of his career and was home free.  I'm not too surprised the Feds got their man, but I'm absolutely flabbergasted that they really were trying all along.  

I'm calling this a draw.  Bad guy gets 20 years more freedom than he should have had.  Feds actually tried to make up for incidents of corruption in their past.

Pretty much, except if you didn't pay he'd rape your daughter, or something of that nature. He was big into murdering, then taking cutters to the fingers, then pulling out all the teeth, actually he would do that before he killed them. They would do it in the basement of "the Riflemans" mothers house in Southie, right next door to his brother Billys house. Billy was the President of the State Senate and swears he didn't know anything was going on. Everybody in Southie knew what Whitey was doing except Billy  ::)
