Subject: How to make a bad cover song? I give you part 2!

Written By: whistledog on 08/02/11 at 12:37 am

So back in 2009, an artist from Canada named Karl Wolf did a hip-hop version of the Toto classic 'Africa'.  It reached #2 in Canada, and I didn't mind it at the time, but alot of people hated it, and I can now see why ...

But now, Karl is at it again.  With help from the great Kardinal Offishall, he has paid hommage to another 80s classic.  I can't say it's 100% bad, as there are some parts of it that showed promise, but then the rap parts kick in, and I just hit my forehead and sigh.  It is currently at #21 in Canada.

See if you can guess what the original 80s version is ...

I couldn't understand what Snow was singing about sometimes.

I liked "Informer"  :-[ but that whole white Jamaican thing is something that does not need to be revisited.

Informer was good for just a one hit wonder.

That's only if it was a one hit wonder.  In the early 00s, Snow made a really good comeback with a different (and better) style which resulted in a brief run of hits that were only popular in Canada and Japan.

Back in 2002, I saw him at a small outdoor concert venue, and the crowd went crazy when he sang "Informer", but they screamed even louder when he sang his 2000 hit "The Plumb Song" ...
