R.E.M. decides to 'call it a day as a band'

Sep 21, 2011

By Ann Oldenburg, USA TODAY

It's the end of the world as we know it! And you might not feel fine about this news.

After three decades in the music business, R.E.M. is breaking up.

It had been rumored that the group might split. In March bass player Mike Mills said in an interview with a German publication that "he doesn't know if there is still a future for R.E.M." He noted that Michael Stipe had other projects. And Peter Buck was busy.

But now, it's official.

A note on the band's site says:

"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening." R.E.M.

I hadn't thought of REM in a while, so I won't really miss them.  I lost track of their stuff after What's the Frequency Kenneth?

They just said...

"A wise man once said--'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave.'

What I agree with.

Maybe they already gave away the last hint  they had in mind, and they think better dead off and not to drop off, who knows  ::)

I only got just one CD of them, " Losing my religion",  just me, the man who never had it even a little and quite one.
