The Duke of Edinburgh has been taken to hospital after suffering chest pains, Buckingham Palace has said.

Prince Philip was treated for a blocked coronary artery and a successful "invasive procedure of coronary stenting" was performed.

The duke, aged 90, had been taken from Sandringham to the cardiothoracic unit at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

The Royal Family had been gathering at Sandringham, a traditional royal retreat in Norfolk, for Christmas.

The palace said that following tests the duke was was found to have a blocked coronary artery which had caused his chest pains.

This was treated successfully by the minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting.

Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a short period, it added.

Luckily he was in a country with a national system that didn't require him to provide proof of insurance before getting care, and his home won't be in jeopardy trying to pay the out of network costs.

The couple Philip and Elizabeth are very close and does listen to every word he says, so she must be feeling awful at this time.

Not to worry.  He and Her Majesty are worth an estimated $200-$450 million, so I doubt that they'd be asking him for his Access card.

Balmoral Castle and Sandringham Place will not be foreclosed upon.  ;D

Clarence House?

Nah, Clarence House is owned by the Crown Estate, which is held on behalf of the British people (and is not considered property of the royals).

Presently Clarence House is the abode of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornhole Cornwall.

The Duke suffered chest pains and was taken to the cardio-thoracic unit at Papworth Hospital, Cambridgeshire, where he underwent successful coronary angioplasty and stenting. It was not a heart attack.
