Subject: Simpsons Ultimate Fan Marathon

Written By: snozberries on 02/11/12 at 11:19 am

I was totally going to do this but couldn't get away from work  >:(

Fox is trying to break the Guiness World Record for longest continuous television-watching by getting fans together to watch all 500eps in a 4 day long Simpsons marathon viewing party in LA.
They started on Feb 8th and will end tomorrow with a screening of the 500th episode that will air on Sunday 2/19.

The person who manages to survive will win $10,500!!! :o  and some pretty cool Simpsons swag!

I could do it...86 hours.... It would be tough but I could do it.  Especially for 10,500 bucks!!! But I have to admit the last few eps, this particular season, would be rather difficult to sit thru again.

I think FOX should stick with the guiness world record of longest running American primetime, scripted television series for The Simpsons.  In 2009, it beat Gunsmoke by number of seasons, but still has not won by number of episodes

Current Simpsons episode count:  498
Total Gunsmoke episodes:  635

138 episodes to go.  At an average of 24 episodes per seasons, that's 5 seasons away

86 is doable, but damn hard to do while sitting on a couch watching TV.  No matter how much caffeine I consumed, the hallucinations started kicking in somewhere between 60 and 72, which was about as far as I got back in college.

How are they doing 500 episodes in 86 hours?  Three screens and different audio feeds?  86*60 = 5160 minutes.  At 22 minutes per episode, that's barely enough for 234 episodes.  Or are they speeding them up?

well that might be 96 hours but that's still not enough - assuming each show really is 22 minutes long.

Rough estimate is that you need about twice as long.

The only movie I could watch ALL day long is 1776. It is a LONG movie (about 3 hours or longer). There may be others but that is only one off the top of my head.  (Oh, I have watched it so many times that I can almost recite the entire movie line per line.  :D ;D ;D ;D ;D )

As much as I love RHPS, I don't think I could recite that one line per line.

I think I've seen all but maybe 20.  I don't think all the eps are in syndication - and I'm not sure how syndication works in the UK but in the US stations typically buy the rights to a chunk of the episodes but not  necessarily all of them so they rerun the same eps a lot.... plus, here they air 6 times a week sometimes 4x a day on the same channel so they tend to cycle through the eps they have the rights to rather quickly.

and.......apparently.......according to the post it note on the board the show often repeats quotes. . .  that I wasn't aware of but I never really took the time to analyze them  ;)

So I went outside this morning.

"Episode 500 wasn't that bad, even though the Simpsons Already Did It in their full-length movie almost five years ago."

It didn't completely suck but it wasn't really a great ep or anything. It was better than maybe 98% of the eps so far this season but that's not saying much.  :-\\

Indeed I was.

Meh. Episode. Evar.

As you say, better than most this season. I've no regrets for having watched it.  But apart from the intro where they tried to show all (eventually going to a grid/mosaic layout) 500 couch-scenes from the series - and that nod to the fandom in the closing credits - it was just another episode.

I remember watching the film in 2007.

I actually stopped watching about 10-20 years ago or so.  :-\\

It stayed funny/relevant for maybe 17 or 18 seasons....maybe it started losing quality when they started working on the movie...there was always an episode here or there in the later seasons that made it worth the effort to watch but the last two seasons have been painful.
