Subject: Official Toonami thread (Update 2016: C Martin Croker/Moltar tribute)

Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 05/16/12 at 8:22 pm

http://twitter.com/#!/adultswim/status/202866436597743616

The biggest 90s nostalgia revival campaign since Nickelodeon, has finally paid off big time! Toonami -- the legendary anime block that ran on Cartoon Network from 1997 to 2008, returned for a special April Fool's event this year, and whose Midnight Run was a precursor to -- returns full-time on Saturday, May 26, 2012 on Adult Swim.

It had been speculated that a myserious schedule change on that night with several empty slots would, in fact, be Toonami. I guess we were right.  :)

Steven Blum will likely return as Tom, since he did on April Fool's. No word on whether Moltar will be involved in some form. The schedule is TBA.

Spread the word!  :D

Jason DeMarco has spoken on his Twitter.

Fact sheet:

Modest budget.

http://www.rebeccagoings.com/images/krabs.gif

No classic Toonami just yet. $$$ But trust me, they are looking into thousands of options ATM. Just be patient like I am.

Yes, Steve Blum is retuning as Tom version 3-ish.

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff32/evildrew81/scary%20stuff/Joker.gifhttp://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/_img/actors/actor_245.jpghttp://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff32/evildrew81/scary%20stuff/Joker.gif

No Sara just yet. $$$

Not much advertising/bumping outside of Saturday nights. I guess $$$ again.

Gundam Wing is DeMarco's favorite and he would love to see this "baddass" show come back. I love what I've seen of Gundam so far.

http://ghostlightning.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/gundamwing.jpg

Richie Branson (Toonami, Outlaw Star, and Gundam raps) is willing to contribute music. DeMarco is open to anyone contributing their music, if you can send him your links.

The epic story of April Fool's: DeMarco and Mike Lazzo were throwing around ideas for this year. Lazzo suggested Toonami and the rest is history. didn't know they'd be bringing back Toonami until after April Fool's, the ratings, the response, the Twitter discussions, the #BringBackToonami campaign and Steve Blum's participation in it, etc. None of this was planned in advance; it's all short notice, hence the budget. The only way the old shows aired for April Fool's was because it was a one-off... or so they thought.

http://images.wikia.com/simpsons/images/4/40/Picture0003.jpg

Classic Toonami music might pop up, like Deep Space Bass.

No subs. Dubs only. "People change the channel when they see subtitles."

No Moltar. C. Martin Croker is busy voicing Zorak for the revived Cartoon Planet (which also doubles as a revived Cartoon Cartoon Fridays).

Peter Cullen is busy with the current Transformers TV series on The Hub so no epic promos. And no Don LaFontaine, either, as he's passed away.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3276/2836787746_5cbbf30092.jpg

The "incorrect" schedule was be revealed to be correct after all. It was originally planned to be shrouded in secrecy. No, not this one!

And two new acquisitions being introduced to Toonami are...

Casshern Sins

http://animepicks.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/cassh23.jpg

and Deadman Wonderland

http://download.minitokyo.net/Deadman.Wonderland.370770.jpg

No American action shows ATM. No Batman: TAS, Superman, etc. ATM. No Samurai Jack, which is on Boomerang anyway.

For any questions I haven't answered, try weeding your way through DeMarco's tweets, or go to this thread on adultswim.com by some guy named rebel_cheese.

Make sure you support Toonami by watching it = more money = more shows, CGI, Sara, classic Toonami, more ad time, Total Immersion Events, etc., etc.

Spread this picture around

Full-rez picture here

Toonami needs ratings = money = your favorite Toonami classics,  Sara, and a long healthy life, etc.

Spread the word and #KeepToonamiAlive. Toonami 2012 has a very, very small budget to start with, but that will change once everybody tunes in Saturday night.

wonder what barbequed horse tastes like?

Anthony Bourdain covered that over in That Other Thread.

You can't get it in the United States, it's going out of fashion in France, but if you're ever in certain parts of Vancouver, or anywhere in Quebec (where the packaging's in French, which means they call it "cheval", but it's everywhere, as in, packaged alongside beef and lamb and chicken in most grocery stores), you can get it.  It's also available in some of the snootier venues in Toronto.  (No, really.)

To answer your question, Dashie is lean, a little sweeter and more flavorful than her bovine counterparts.  Tastes more like beef than venison, but about 20% cooler.  (After all, why overcook a lean tenderloin?)

the actual numbers haven't been released yet, but here's some Toonami ratings news:

From tvbythenumbers.com:

...and Bleach (Saturdays, 12 a.m.) each ranked #1 in their respective time periods among adults 18-34 & 18-24, and men 18-34 & 18-24.

The series premiere of Deadman Wonderland (Saturday, May 26, 12:30 a.m.) was #1 in its time period among adults 18-24 (up 14% vs. the 2011 time period), men 18-34 and men 18-24 (up 2%). Immediately following, the series premiere of Casshern Sins (1 a.m.) ranked #1 in the time period among men 18-34 & 18-24.

Am I the only one still wishing that they'd bring back Sailor Moon? I loved watching that as a kid in the late 90's/early 00's.

Subject: Re: Official Toonami thread

Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 06/01/12 at 6:37 pm

The numbers are in...

Bleach: 1,060,000 (12 AM) and 580,000 (3 AM)
Deadman Wonderland: 860,000 (12:30 AM) and 557,000 (3:30 AM)
Casshern Sins: 796,000 (1 AM) and 488,000 (4 AM)

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: 699,000 (1:30 AM) and 473,000 (4:30 AM)
Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig: 698,000 (2 AM) and 450,000 (5 AM)I
Cowboy Bebop: 669,000 (2:30 AM) and 419,000 (5:30 AM)

Pretty good for late night cable on Memorial Day Weekend against Thunder vs. Spurs and Pay-Per-View sports. But DeMarco says his bosses want better ratings in the subsequent weeks, and we can start tomorrow night. Richie Branson says #BetterRatingsForaBetterToonami.

Once again, Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins ranked #1 in their timeslots (for 6/2). I don't think the numbers have been released yet.

In other Toonami-related news, Steve Blum has just been awarded a Guiness Record for being the most prolific video game voice actor. He has played Crash Bandicoot in video games, and on TV as Toonami's Tom and Cowboy Bebop's Spike Spiegel.

And to that, I say "Bang!"  8)

http://www.deviantart.com/download/110993240/Spike_Spiegel___Bang_by_Graytiv.png

Stay tuned tomorrow night for week three of the new Toonami. They will have Bleach #257, Deadman #3, and Casshern #3. As for GITS and Bebop, I'm not sure about episodes or ep. numbers. But as always, expect one hell of a show.  :)

April Fool's 2013: Toonami's ratings plummet and has no choice but to offer us these shows.

Truth is, Toonami's ratings are improving every week. Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins continue to be #1 in their timeslots, and I think Bleach, too.

Toonami is on RIGHT NOW!

Tonight it's:

Bleach #260 -- Midnight/11 CT
Deadman Wonderland #6 (HD) -- 12:30/11:30 CT
Casshern Sins #6 (HD) -- Just ended; will be on again at 4:00 a.m./3:00 a.m. CT
FMA: Brotherhood #36 -- 1:30/12:30 CT (a.k.a. UP NEXT!)
Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig #21 -- 2/1 CT
Cowboy Bebop #20 -- 2:30/1:30 CT

Tom did a promo about reruns, similar to the one Moltar did in 1999.

I've been forgetting to keep this thread bumped. Ratings are still strong, especially last week over the previous week.

Toonami Week 10 (Tonight) schedule:

Bleach #264 - "Battle of the Females?" (The filler should be ending real soon)
Deadman Wonderland #10 - "Undertaker" (Only 2 more afterwards!!)
Casshern Sins #10 - "The Man Entrapped by the Past"
FMA: Brotherhood #41 - "The Abyss"
Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd Gig #26 - "Endless Gig" (Final episode of 2nd Gig)
Cowboy Bebop #24 - "Hard Luck Woman" (Two more episodes)

I guess we should expect reruns, like Tom said... Which is good because I wanna see GITS and Bebop from the beginning.

Casshern Sins #12 - "Coloring the Moment of Living"
FMA: Brotherhood #43 - "Bite of the Ant"

JSYK...

Starting this Saturday night:

Samurai 7 replaces Deadman Wonderland
Eureka Seven replaces FMA: Brotherhood
But Get this -- FMA: Brotherhood is replacing the retiring Cowboy Bebop, which just ended last week.  :\'(

http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20070713201013/uncyclopedia/images/6/61/Spike_dies.JPG

RIP Spike Spiegel  :\'(

I'm gonna miss Ganta, Shiro, and especially Spike Spiegel.  :\'( It was hard enough saying goodbye to Nolan's Batman (in IMAX no less).

So to recap, here's a rundown of the new schedule effective Saturday night:

12:00 Bleach (Incumbent) (In canon) (New episode)
12:30 Samurai 7 (Premiere) (HD)
1:00 Casshern Sins (Incumbent) (HD) (New episode)
1:30 Eureka 7 (Premiere)
2:00 Ghost in the Shell (First season) (Incumbent) (Classic episode)
2:30 FMA: Brotherhood (Moving to Cowboy Bebop's timeslot) (Classic episode)

I'm still a bit... ahem emotional about Spike's death, but at least Steve Blum voices Tom anyway.

Stay gold. Bang!

Edit to add:

Episode schedule

12:00/11:00 CT - Bleach #267 - "Connected Hearts! The Left Fist of Certain Death"
12:30/11:30 CT - Samurai 7 #1 - "The Master (The Murderer)" (HD)
1:00/12:00 CT - Casshern Sins #13 - "The Past Wil lRise Before You" (HD)

Tonight will be a Bleach catchup/recap/crash course promo, probably reminding people that it's back in canon.

Also, sad news to report, Bandai is discontinuing its DVDs, Blu-rays, manga, and novels effective March 2013.  :( :-\\ :\'( This means if you want to own Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, or Gundam Wing on DVD, you better hurry your ass to Best Buy or wherever anime is sold. Yikes! I guess it's time for Tom to continue plugging the hell out of the DVDs like they did August 19 and on April Fool's.

While on their journey, the Tachikoma stumbles upon a cyberbrain being sold in a market that contains a ghost, and brings it back to the storage bay. When the Tachikoma returns to Section 9, technicians begin extensive tests to determine why the tank went AWOL in the first place, while Section 9 members turn their attention to the cyberbrain in an effort to determine what the brain contains.

When one of the lab technicians investigating the brain links with it and becomes "lost," Kusanagi volunteers to go after the missing man, leading her on a soul-searching ghost dive.

Four Special Security Team operators of the Japan Coast Guard were sent to find the girl and rescue her, but the team vanished without a trace.

Section 9 is covertly dispatched to the island with two objectives: locate any remaining SST members and evacuate them, and find and rescue the missing girl. Section 9 is inserted by submarine, and after a time manages to find the girl, but when they do they realize that something is very wrong: the girl is the same age she was when she was kidnapped all those years ago.

I can't believe I've left this thread dormant since October 20, 2012... and here we are now on February 7, 2015. Where have I been?

Anyway, sad, sad news to report...

Last week, Adult Swim shaved off a half hour of Toonami. This week, it gets worse as they slash it to a mere 3 1/2 hours!

12:00 Dragon Ball Z Kai (HD)
12:30 Kill la Kill (HD)
1:00 Naruto: Shippuden
1:30 Inuyasha: The FInal Act (HD)
2:00 Gurren Lagaan (HD)
2:30 One Piece (HD)
3:00 Deadman Wonderland (HD)

Expendable shows include (shows I like are asterisked and bolded) :
*Cowboy Bebop (its first run in HD! The show is available on Blu-ray from Funimation. This was probably its 5 billionth run overall, and who can blame them? One of the best shows ever, anime or otherwise.),
*Attack on Titan (second run),
IGPX (meh),
Bleach (meh, too confusing),
Space Dandy (meh, too weird for me),
and *Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig (probably run as many times as Bebop).

Who still watches Toonami? I used to be able to watch the entire block to my favor, but for some reason I can't anymore. Even when I already took a nap. I'm really enjoying the Thriller arc of One Piece, but it airs too late. Missed two episodes.

Much like I have this thread, I've lost track of One Piece, Naruto Shippuden, and Parasyte.

Current schedule:

(All times ET)
12:00 DBZ Kai
12:30 One Punch Man
1:00 Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
1:30 Hunter x Hunter
2:00 Naruto: S
2:30 One Piece
3:00 Parasyte

They did a tribute to C. Martin Croker and Moltar before kicking off. Croker died late last Saturday (September 17). Best known as Zorak, he also played Moltar on Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and Toonami.

I just need to see the rest of Thriller bark since the animation of the series goes to crap afterwards. Haha I lost track of Shippuden, to. I'm older now so I see that the writing of the series is.. kind of boring. I tried Parasyte. The anime sadly isn't for me.

As for C. Martin Croker, I seen it. It hit me a bit. He didn't live long at all.

With My Hero Academia and the new seasons of FLCL coming to fruition, Toonami is undoubtedly entering a new peak. It may just end up a small renaissance but its still progress.
