Subject: 2008-2012 Dance Pop Music Jumped the shark??????????

Written By: thenewtattoo on 06/18/12 at 8:32 pm

Why do i get the feeling Dance pop is going to go away very soon. Its almost as if ppl are getting annoyed by every song sounding the same.  Now its just getting ridiculous. Uptempo pop is fun  but  when every person has the same distorted voice it loose uniqueness .  It was fine when Timbaland and Gaga did it  but now everyone is copying gaga's sound  and its horrible . Some artists such as Katy perry and flo rida make fun pop music i like that  , I am more talking about sheeshty LMFAO type of songs  I think the public is going to get tired really quickly .

it's definitely past its peak (circa 2010 imo). This is probably gonna be the last year of it.

Yeah, it'll probably go away soon enough.  There always will be music to play in dance clubs and such, but that type of music will vary depending on the year (throughout most of the 00s, it was Hip-Hop).

That said, there is the question of what will replace it.  Indie-ish stuff seems to be doing well recently, but the question is whether these musicians can actually string together hits or not.  2011 had some "different" songs like fudge You and Pumped Up Kicks, but their respective musicians couldn't actually string together two or more mainstream hits.  Foster the People did well on the Rock charts with other songs, but couldn't quite cross over.

The thing is  the economy is bad  so dance music supplements it . I don't see it going away until the usa gets better

Its def better than early and mid 2000s music
But the thing is after its over  there is no where but down to go  because music is so uptempo.

I don't agree at all. :D

I'd take early/mid 2000s Justin Timberlake, Avril Lavigne, Dirrty-era X-tina, Shania circa I'm Gonna Getcha Good, etc. any day of the week over the **** they released during the late 00's/early 10's and singers that got big recently like Kesha, Justin Bieber, etc.

I loved how most pop singers during the 2001-2004 era sounded raw, more underground; many of them sounded more like AC than pop/dance, a lot of them went for urban sounds and some even went for punk-like vibes. It was pop music you weren't afraid to say you like, unlike what we have now/had in the late 90's. Stupid, 90's bubblegum stuff was largely over by then. In 2005-6, however, music started going sorta plastic again.

I think it is still peaking in 2012, dance music has exploded in a way never seen since the late '70s disco era, it's completely saturated mainstream pop culture by now.
I know it's the dominant mainstream music when I hear filthy wubble dubstep basslines in EVERY OTHER FREAKING COMMERCIAL. :o

Definitely not better than early 00s music
There's no rock right now and everything sounds like the Disney Channel!

its not going anywhere for awhile and when it does    music will still be uptempo for a while  without the synth production.

I don't think it's going away soon either. I think we will be hearing it up until the late 2010s and then it will get replaced with who knows what. I hope the early 2000s vibe comes back. I miss hip-hop.  :(

haha there may just be another form of it that will come in the future like vocodor which is artificial music. Or Indie might replace it. Or Hip hop and Rock will come back from previous decades too.

Thats the thing

"What could replace it?"  Theres no way anything can replace it.

If something is uptempo  the only thing else that counters it is  down tempo.

But like I said if mid 00s music comes back i am going to be heated

Me too. I'll generally take 2000-2004 over 2005-2009 in terms of music.

If you look at the Billboard charts from the past couple months, there has been a lot more variety. You still see the Rihanna's and Katy Perry's of the world there, but not as much of them. Adele is the furthest thing from dance pop, and she's had three singles reach #1 along with her album still selling thousands each week. Then you've got "indie" rock acts like Gotye, fun., and Foster the People coming up with big hits.

On the flipside though, the boy band appears to have made a comeback, and "Call Me Maybe" is pure sugar-sweet pop. Then again, netiher of those are the dubstep, techno-ridden type of pop we've gotten accustomed to since 2008-2009 or so.
