Subject: 2012 Review

Written By: batfan2005 on 12/27/12 at 4:16 am

Now that there are only a few days left in 2012, what are your thoughts about that year overall (personal life, events, pop culture, etc?). For me, despite my work and relationship problems, its actually one of my better years, and continued the streak of every four years (the ones with the summer olympics, presidential elections, leap year) being my good years. It's also the best year of the 10's so far. The highlights of my year was all the traveling I've done, going snowboarding for the first time, and getting engaged. Also at work, I have less stress now that I'm changing jobs, and hoping for a better one in the future.

Musically, this year had some good songs for my own personal soundtrack, including "Call Me Maybe", "Wide Awake", "Someone I Used to Know", Usher's "Looking For Myself" album, and "Gangnam Style" (even though I finally had enough of that song, but will be something to look back and remember). This year also had some good movies, ones I can watch repeatedly, like Dark Knight Rises (of course, being a batfan), Total Recall, Avengers, and Ted.

Regarding the Presidential Elections, I didn't vote for Obama (I voted for Gary Johnson), but I think he's still better off than Romney. I also enjoyed watching the summer olympics in one of my favorite cities (especially the opening ceremony).

I thought 2012 was a great year. Good music from Carly Rae Jepsen, PSY (kind of lol), Kimbra, Cheryl Cole, Owl City, Bruno Mars, Ellie Goulding, Passion Pit, hell even M83 had a hit with Midnight City. Seems like all my favorites are getting popular (except for Lights  :-\\ )

Definitely an above average year for film too. Seven Psychopaths. :) And we survived the apocalypse! Can't get much better than that eh?

2012 weather-wise had some pretty busy times like heavy powerful thunderstorms in July, Superstorm Sandy and the freak snowstorm that happened a few weeks after Sandy.

Great year for movies. Argo, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Avengers, Dark Knight Rises.

Musically, I think 2012 could be a turning point with more indie pop getting more popular.

Pretty bad year though first half was better. It just felt like an extension of 2011. Here's to hoping 2013 will be a great year.

I think this year was the year that so many innocent people lost their lives by getting thrown onto train tracks.

I was hoping that 2012 would be the year that ushered in the comeback of Taco, but it was not to be.

I agree Inertia, It's been one hell of a year, maybe 2013 will bring us good luck because of the number 13 in the year.

:D

Well I hope 2013 improves upon this current year despite the negative connotations surrounding the number thirteen. Frankly, I've had enough of 2012 and will not look back on it fondly other than my graduation from university.

Personally, this year was great for me. I kept my job for almost a year, and I lost 55 pounds, so far.

As for pop culture, I liked music this year. Also, I loved the new James Bond film 'Skyfall'.

One word for 2012: transition year. Folks welcome to the 2010's....There is no Laguna Beach, No Paris Hilton, No John Carter, No Bush, No flip phone,no turning back!

Let this decade began! 2013 will be the catalyst of the core 2010's!

And thank God for most of them. I guess it is change for the better after all. I think 2013 is the year when things start to become even more futuristic, as mentioned in another thread, with the release of smart watches and Google Glasses.

2012 was a s*** year for me. Probably the worst I've experienced so far in my life so I'm glad it's over. 2013 already looks like it's shaping up in a good compared to 2012.

I remember traveling to London just a few days after the Olympics closing ceremony (great time to go, less crowded and better deals on hotel rooms) and unfortunately the Shard still wasn't open to the public. I think it was delayed if I remember correctly.

The first time I saw it properly completed was on a misty day and could only see the bottom half of it, I did not have a camera with me that day.

I am not sure of a delayed, but it was opened to the public in February 2013.
