Subject: New Songs for 2013

Written By: whistledog on 03/07/13 at 10:47 am

New Music from around the world!

Olly Murs featuring Flo-RidaTroublemaker
Following the likes of Leona Lewis, Cher Lloyd and One Direction, Olly Murs is the next contestant from the UK series X-Factor to chart in North America.  Already a #1 in his native UK, Troublemaker has peaked at #15 (and rising back up) in Canada, and has recently risen to #37 in America.  Previously, Olly had a minor hit in North America last year with the fantastic Heart Skips A Beat featuring Rizzle Kicks.

Carly Rae JepsenTonight I'm Getting Over You
New at #90 in the Canadian chart, it is her 8th chart appearance here.  Will this rise into the Top 40?  Easily!

Remady and Manu-L featuring J-SonHollywood Ending 2k13
Swiss DJ, new in the Switzerland Top 75 at #18.  Remady has seen the US Dance charts previously, but as last year's fantastic Single Ladies did not hit the US dance chart, it's up in the air if this one will.  Definately in my Top 10 favourites of 2013 so far!

I hope this is not overlooked

Love Jessie Ware and her album. One of the best releases of 2012 (UK)/2013 (US)! Wish she was more popular though, especially in the US.

I don't keep in touch with todays music much, but I find myself humming, whistling and singing this tune...

Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcrbM1l_BoI

BTW: I know it's not really new, but it's hot and happening (currently #1 in our charts).

Two more that are hot and happening (current nrs. 2 and 3 in our charts):

Stromae - Papaoutai

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiKj0Z_Xnjc

Not as strong as Alors On Danse, but a hit single nontheless.
He currently has another single out as well that's doing well in Belgium: Formidable.

Martin Garrix - Animals

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCYcHz2k5x0

17-year old Martin Garrix (Martijn Garritsen) already had the honor of remixing Christina Aguilera's Your Body
before releasing this solo track.

That song is fantastic!  I's currently sitting at #2 in Canada.  I can't get enough of it.  The best Avicii track yet!

It was number 1 in the UK charts recently.  my son loves it and has learnt all the words.

I could also see this working with a more folk/acoustic style to it

It wasn't until recently that I realized what the song is about (my French is a bit rusty). It's about his dad, who he has only seen three times in his life. (Papa où-est tu = Daddy Where Are You).

I didn't know Stromae had new material out.  I quite like that.  He had a sizeable hit here a few years ago with Alors on Danse

I like how Formidable has English subtitles. It makes the song all the more comprehensible, and I think I actually prefer it over Papaoutai. It strongly reminds me of legendary Belgian singer Jacques Brel.

Three of my most played songs at the moment I just realized are all by Dutch DJs ...

Martin Garrix - Animals
This one entered the Canadian chart at #90 last week.  I hope it rises.  I see it was already a smash in many parts of Europe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCYcHz2k5x0

Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie - This is What it Feels Like
This peaked at #6 in Canada and was certified Platinum.  It has become one of the biggest radio hits this year, I hear it almost everywhere I go.  Oddly enough, it did not (or atleast hasn't yet) reach the US Hot 100
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR_DFMUzX4E

Avicii vs Nicky Romero - I Could Be the One
Only Nicky Romero is Dutch.  Avicii is from France.  This made it to #65 in Canada and if I remember correctly, was used in advertisements for Tim Hortons Restaurants (though I might be thinking of 'Levels'.  I am not 100% sure

Phoenix - Trying to Be Cool
I've never been a big fan of them, but I love this song of there's.
When I first heard I thought it was something from the 80s. The style somewhat reminds me of Pet Shop Boys.

Here is the most 90's song to come out in the past 13 years:

Ariana Grande - Baby I

This definitely backs my observation that the hip-hop world is working hardest to make Nineties Nostalgia a thing.

Now for one that I like...

"Brave" - Sara Bareilles:

This one has a very mid-to-late 80s feel to it, a very synthpop feel with a hair ballad like structure.

The Killers - Shot At The Night

"Moonshine" by Bruno Mars is pretty cool. It has that early 80's sound.

I also like his song Treasure, which samples a song by the Commodores.

I wanted a new song for 2013.  And for my sins, inthe00s gave me one.

http://www.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2013914/rs_560x315-131014163027-alisongoldpanda.gif

I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me an 00zer. You have a right to smite me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror... Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies!

I remember when I logged onto inthe00s.com... seems a thousand centuries ago. Years later, we went into a thread to make a joke about Rebecca Black's "Friday". We left the thread after we had made fun of the video, and this old boomer came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there, and YouTube had come and DMCA'd every parody video. There they were in a pile. A pile of 404 links. And I remember... I... I... I cried, I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out; I didn't know what I wanted to do! And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it... I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, my God... the genius of that! The genius! The will to do that! Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we, because they could stand that these were not monsters, these were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that.

If this board had ten more users like those men, our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to come up with something worse than Rebecca Black without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment! Because it's judgment that defeats us.

And apparently, this year it comes disguised as a sad panda. ;D

Apart from the fact that "food" doesn't rhyme with "true", and that wearing kimonos doesn't make you Chinese but rather Japanese, the song is actually pretty....bad.

Same business model as brought the Internet Friday and Thanksgiving Day (where was our thread for that?  I know we had one.)

The horror.  The horror.

Monty Python DID do something similar in 1980...

For some reason these two songs sounded very 1980s to me...and yet they were played in consecutive order on MTV Brand New earlier today!

Chvrches - Lies

The 1975 - Girls
