Microsoft says its Windows 10 operating system will be a free upgrade for many users and unveils a "holographic" headset that can run it.

What happened to Windows 9. They go from 8 to 10? Windows 7 is still my favorite.

I'm sticking with my Windows for Workgroups 3.11. I like the old-school desktop. 8)

What happened to Windows 9. They go from 8 to 10? Windows 7 is still my favorite.
It is widely speculated that a lot of really sloppy programmers used the string "Windows 9" as a way to tell installers they were on Windows 95 or Windows 98, as opposed to Windows NT. That, and the desire of Microsoft's marketing department to have a version number that matches the roman numeral "X" in Apple's competing "OS X".

Why didn't they just continue with Windows 2001 (for Windows XP), Windows 2007 (For Windows Vista), Windows 2009 (For Windows 7) ... and Windows 2015 (for Windows 10)?

I don't know, they're always upgrading.

I'm confused.
My first computer was XP. Then I got Vista which I thought sucked the big one. Then I got Windows 7 and that is the one that I have been sticking with. I go out of my way to find computers with Windows 7.

When I had a Mac it ran System 7 too, and that was pretty good.

As for me, Vista was the worst OS after Windows Millennium Edition. I had it for 6 months or so and switched to Windows 7 pretty soon. Windows Vista is very slow and complicated.
