Subject: Hi-Top fade making a comeback?

Written By: 90s Guy on 03/24/15 at 11:16 pm

I've noticed in my college several black guys wearing high top fades--all of the guys were in their early 20s at most. Is it making a comeback or is it just in my area?

In general, for both guys and girls, I see quite a few early '90s looks fashion wise being in at least with the 18-21 year old group.

I've been seeing it, too. My 14-year-old cousin (who is half-black) has that hairstyle.

I always liked that hairstyle. I hope it does come back among my age bracket too (late 20s)

You just noticed it? It started coming back around 2009-ish.

I remember Hi-Tops during the early 1990's.

I also noticed today some medium size afros on some black guys today. Not anywhere as big as the '60s or '70s but big enough to be termed Afros.

I noticed it just like a month ago at a restaurant. A dude was wearing the hair style. I think I saw another guy last year wear it too.

It's like 1991 again.

I don't think I'm emotionally ready to relive the 90s. No lord...

I like the really BIG Afros, the ones like they used to wear in the early 1970's.

There was nothing cooler than a big, tight 'fro with a comb stuck in it for style.  8)

But definitely not on the streets in this day and age, you'd get laughed at.

You never know Howard. The afros are getting bigger where I live. Not that big or near it yet...But it's acceptable to have a medium sized afro now. Perhaps in another few years, it'd be acceptable. I mean, 4 inch or so hi-top fades, which look straight out of 1991 and are arguably more silly looking than fros, are acceptable.

These are basically what I've seen exactly at my school:

Lenny never looked that good.  he always looks grubby, like he needs a hot bath.

There is no such thing as a "4 inch hi-top fade". That would be a flattop.

This is the only hi-top fade in existence:

That's a flattop! A hi-top fade isn't easy to achieve. You have to have HAIR!!! When I say hair, I mean HAIR!! ;D

Marge Simpson wears a hi- top fade:

True, but you HAD to have high hair from 1985-1993.

The richest Mayan women in the city were not afraid to show their status and wealth, with hair inspired by the art of the time, scarification, tattoos and big jade jewels. The being a forerunner to the Hi-Top?

It's been back for a while now. I got mine in 2011 and just now in March 2015 cut it down a whole lot.
