Subject: Cecil the Lion

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/07/31/dentist-who-killed-cecil-lion-wanted-to-kill-elephant-next-guide-says/

So I'm sure you've heard the news that's been going around lately about an American dentist who went to Africa to hunt a lion at a national park. It was lured out of the protected area, baited by the hunting guides, and eventually shot. They saw the tracking collar and tried to hide it. Now the guy who shot the lion is in hiding and officials in Zimbabwe want him to go back.

What do you make of it? Personally I think hunting just for bragging rights and a trophy is wrong.

Was that lion endangered?

Was that lion endangered?

Should be. There are only about 30,000 lions left in Africa.

Well, at least most African countries made it illegal to kill their endangered animals in the wild.

Why would he want to shoot it? Did the lion get provoked?

Nope. He just wanted to shoot it because it was there. Some people like to hunt big game for the sport of it-nothing more than that.

Well, the person who shot the lion was a hunter. He probably thought hunting animals was okay, even though some of them are endangered.

The whole thing is a big pile of grandstanding.

First off, let me say that I never understood how you could get your jollies killing majestic animals.

That said, people have been hunting wild game for millennia.  And the people who want this guy's head on a pike could not give a damn about animal suffering if they eat any pork or chicken in the United States.  There is infinitely more inhumanity going on in the production of pork and chicken in America's factory farms.  So if they want somebody's head to roll, let them start with the factory farmers and stop eating their McNuggets and pork BBQ.

All this noise about that lion is nothing more than people wanting to look "fashionable" by protesting something.

It's nothing new, but somehow this one got attention. There are people who don't eat meat because of what factory farms do. It's still not enough to make a difference.

He was also a family dentist.

From what I believe is that Cecil The Lion was best described as 'celebrity' to the area and the locals are upset about it.

The brother of Cecil the lion has been killed by an apparently illegal hunter after the slaughter of one of Africa's most famous animals sparked global outrage.

Let me guess, I'm racist, sexist, homophobic, or have problems with transsexuals, if I'm not 'outraged' like everybody else.  ::)

Rebellion is the new conformity, which isn't really rebellion at all.  8-P

That being said, I think killing big animals like lions and tigers, just for fun, is wrong. Plus, there's white privilege in play here.

But I don't have to post on every internet blog or site just because it's 'cool' or 'politically correct' to be 'angry' or 'outraged.'
