Written By: Philip Eno on 08/26/15 at 11:53 am

The final novel by author Sir Terry Pratchett is about to hit bookshops, almost six months after his death. The Shepherd's Crown, the 41st novel in his Discworld series, will go on sale in the UK and Commonwealth at midnight BST (23:00 GMT Wednesday). In the UK, fans will gather for midnight openings at stores in London, Oxford and Newcastle. More shops will open earlier than usual on Thursday. The Shepherd's Crown will be published in the US on 1 September.

There was excitement and sadness in equal measure when Sir Terry Pratchett's last novel went on sale at midnight last night, with some shops opening late for the occasion.

Some of his loyal fans dressed in costume for a special event at Waterstones Piccadilly in central London. One of those there was Pat Harkin, who told BBC Radio 4 he would savour The Shepherd's Crown "like a fine wine".
