Subject: Internet Rudeness

Written By: LyricBoy on 09/21/15 at 6:59 pm

OK maybe I am just being cranky.  But lately I am noticing more and more websites that when you initially open the page, give you one of those "pop over" messages that, in my opinion, RUDELY interrupt what you are doing.

Hey, I understand that the websites have to make a buck somehow.  But do they REALLY need to completely interrupt what we're doing, rather than a less-offensive banner ad?

Some of the sites are clearly sites where the originators of the content want to get it out there without advertising value, like "PR Newswire" releases.  But even then, they rudely commandeer the screen with one of those dumbass "Would you like to provide feedback?" prompts.  Yeah, I'll provide some feedback...STOP ASKING ME FOR FEEDBACK.

Inthe00s members, What say you? ???

People still browse without noscript and at least one adblocker? They still do that?

Some of those if you click by mistake, lead to pages that could be harmful to your computer. I was on a different social network that had a whole page ad come up and not just a pop up. Very inconvenient and disruptive.

Happened to me too. I was accessing a news media webpage, a pop-over appeared and totally obscured the news report, and could not get rid of the pop-over, had to miss out on that news.

On the whole, don't like 'em!

I hate the ones that are on the right side of the page (near the slide bar). I am reading and move the courser toward the slide bar and a stupid ad pops up because I passed the courser over it.  ::)

Those are called viruses and trogans! Yuck! 8-P Those can cause your computer to slow down severely, or else could be frozen and you'll have to spend money in a computer shop to get your hard drive fixed.

My protection is Norton. Hopefully it stands up to the trojans and other malware.

Maybe AdBlock should solve your problem. It's pretty much a pain in the ass when you have to go through ads on the Internet now.

Another thing I hate is when you to to a website and they have video ads on the side of the page that play automatically. I usually have many windows open and it takes me a while to figure out which window is playing the obnoxious ad.

Also the sound from the video plays out over what you are listening to.
