Just curious if you guys are going to see it this week. Personally I didn't get a hold of any tickets, so I'll probably have to wait a little bit  :\'(

I saw every Star Wars release in the cinema, and was in a privilege position to see the first one three times before it opened.

I'd love to see it but the theater's would be packed and I got no tickets. Maybe by the end of the month I'll go. My wife's more excited about it than I am! Better not suck like Phantom and Attack did.

Yeah same here man! I do like the prequels, but they are inferior to the original series. Hopefully this revitalizes the series for their's and our benefit

That's great. Yeah I seen a few movies in the theater on Christmas Day. One of my favorites being Dreamgirls in 2006

The Boy is going tomorrow night, as for me....no! I have seen the original Star Wars when it came out.
I saw it at a drive-in when it opened and there was barely anyone there. I also saw the next two in
theaters but that is it. I have seen the three originals, only once and haven't seen any of the subsequent
movies.

Revenge was a good movie but even that one doesn't compare to the first three. It would be great if this one brings the spark back into the series.

Cinemagoers in the UK and Ireland spent almost £10m to watch the new Star Wars film on its first day of release - a new opening day box office record. The £9.64m tally beat the previous best of £9.48m, set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011. Midnight screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Thursday morning accounted for £2.4m of ticket sales. Some chains have increased their prices for the film. Odeon, for example, has imposed a ticket surcharge of up to £2.

I saw it yesterday.

No offense if you liked it, but I found it rather bland. As other reviews have pointed out, it's mostly a re-hash of the original trilogy, with a tone that feels closer to the MCU or a modern SNL skit than the original trilogy. I felt there was no real gravitas or emotion to the situations where there should've been (such as a certain character's death, and the trench run). John Williams' music was surprisingly forgettable (of course, he's really old, so I can't blame him for having trouble coming up with fresh new melodies).

At least the prequels had memorable music, occasional gravitas, and lines that were memorable in how terrible/funny they were (I have the high ground, Now this is pod racing, I'll try spinning, YOU WILL DIE, I hate sand, YOUWONTTAKHERFROMME). Nothing about TFA seemed memorable, it was just "meh", IMHO.

It was AMAZING! Way better than the prequels. I was very impressed and it exceeded my expectations.

The movie was solid. Was it the best movie ever? No.

But it had a spark and an energy about it that was amazing. I give the movie a solid B, a high B. Like 84% out of 100.

I have a feeling the next one will be even better. So yes, I liked the film, and it was better than I thought it would be.

There's too much hype to all of this.  It is like the commercialization of Christmas.

They're hawking all sorts of Star Wars swag now.  About the only thing I have not seen yet is Star Wars toilet paper, although I am sure somebody is working on it.  ::)

I have no problem with merchandising but after it gets to this level it is a real turn-off for me.  Kinda like how the commercialization of "Black Friday" finally kept me away from shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, which used to be a pleasant event.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has unseated Avatar to become the top-earning film of all time in North America, Disney says. The studio claims the JJ Abrams film has passed the $760.5m (£520m) taken by Avatar over its lifetime, but has yet to give official figures. Last month, Star Wars: The Force Awakens became the fastest film to take $1bn (£674m) at the global box office. But Avatar - released in 2009 - still holds the global record. The James Cameron film took $2.8bn (£1.9bn) across the world, as compared to The Force Awakens worldwide earnings of $1.6bn (£1.09bn) to date.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens managed to make a lot of money in a very short space of time.

But a new report suggests its success wasn't just to do with high audience numbers.

The National Association of Theatre Owners revealed on Tuesday that the average price of a movie ticket in the US hit a record high of $8.70 (£6.14) between October and December last year.

That's a rise of 40 cents, or 28p, on what it cost one year ago to go to the pictures.

Over the full year of 2015, the average ticket cost $8.43 (£5.94).

The averages cover cinemas across the country and showings at all times of day.

The release of the next Star Wars film has been delayed until the end of 2017, Disney has announced.

Star Wars: Episode VIII was due to go on global release in May 2017 but instead will not be aired until the following December.

It will follow The Force Awakens, which is still showing and has become the biggest-grossing film in US history.

In the five weeks since its release, it has earned $861m (£607m) in the US and $1.88bn globally.

Disney did not say why the film had been delayed until 15 December 2017, but there had been speculation that the script was being rewritten.

Production is set to begin next month at Pinewood Studios, west of London.

The new release date means it could come up against another long-awaited blockbuster, Avatar 2, which is set for Christmas 2017 but could be further delayed.
