That's a really great song. I'm looking forward to hearing a new album from her that will hopefully be as good as her first one.

Some hits on the charts so far.

Cam - Burning House
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyGSe76rAJc
I love this song. It's so organic and genuine.

Jordan Smith - Mary Did You Know
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7Ux80jK3bI
When I hear the song's title, I instantly think of Pentatonix, but this version is excellent.

Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6xNuUEnh2g
On the first Billboard chart week of January, this song hit the top 40 for the first time since January 1961 - its first chart run.

Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89gVQvFV7hQ
This song also charted in the top 40 again! I love this holiday classic. It's hard to choose a favorite, but for me, this is on the list.

As for non-holiday songs...

My House - Flo Rida
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo35R9zQsAI
Probably his best song. I really like how the production isn't trashy like "GDFR" is. The song has a classic hip-hop beat, and what do you know, the song has a melody! That's unusual for a rap song these days. Of course there are a few melodic rap songs on the Top 40, but the ugly bass, trap beat, shrilly voice rap song seems to be what the Hip-Hop community really likes listening to these days.

Hands to Myself - Selena Gomez (Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #7)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMlcn-_jpWY
I really enjoy the stripped down creativity to this. Both this song and "Same Old Love" are a lot better than "Good For You".

Hide Away - Daya
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwHQfn0s94M
At first when I sampled it on the iTunes preview I was skeptical of the song - I was afraid it would be too bubblegumish. Then I decided to give the song a try when the lyric video for the song was posted on FaceBook, and I was convinced. I like the song, it's melancholy and sentimental. I like how understated it is and it's not overproduced. The official music video is pretty funny, the international version is a bit different. I was in a similar situation back in high school and I can still kinda relate to this, but only it's the other way around. I was the "good guy looking for Ms. Right". It didn't happen, and I've never had a girlfriend. I do think it will happen someday, but as for when, that is in God's hands.

Lazarus - David Bowie (Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #40)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-JqH1M4Ya8
This song is so good! The rock composition with the touch of jazz gives it such a Noir vibe. I love it. The music video does even more to enhance the feeling of the song and I really appreciate the film feel of it. The song's success may have been induced by his death, but I find it amazing that this song managed to hit #40!

Work (feat. Drake) - Rihanna (Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=428owtKUJYk
A reggae-fusion song with an electronic composition. I could do without the auto tune, but I like the eery vibe that the song's synthesizers give off. It's the first thing that you hear when the song begins. Aside from a few songs, her album #Anti is actually really good. The album features a lot of songs with old-school/classic hip-hop beats and a lot of piano-driven ballads. Let's hope that these songs are the ones that are released as the following singles instead of the bad songs.

I Took a Pill in Ibiza (SeeB Remix) - Mike Posner
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjWcwMsm-3M
Oh gosh, I love this song! I thought Mike Posner was a has-been and was gone for good, but this song is totally kickin' it! The original is an acoustic guitar ballad, but this is the remix. I like both, but the remix is so unique and original. I liked his previous hit songs, but this one is definitely his best. It's so chill yet so lively.

7 Years - Lukas Graham
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHCob76kigA
A touching and emotional song. I like how this song and the music video actually doesn't have a political agenda or tries to further a certain cause or movement, as I thought that was going to happen. Instead he sings about his life story and how his family and friends affected him and how much they mean to him, as well as looking forward to the future and what life has in store for him as an old man.

EDIT 3/19/2016: I changed the chart peaks to fit better with the most recent times.

@ArcticFox -- Some great picks! I was also skeptical of Daya, and I'm still somewhat warming up to the chorus. I'm starting to like it though, she has a good voice.

I liked this song which @musicguy93 introduced to me. Unique sound!

The 1975 - UGH!

Here are two favourites of mine that I hear on the radio all the time ...

Laidback Luke featuring Trevor Guthrie - Let it Go

Diplo and Sleepy Tom - Be Right There
This one is actually from 2015, but it never charted here in Canada until February 2016.  It contains an interpolation of the 1993 hit Don't Walk Away by Jade

I don't think so at all. I was actually afraid that it was going to sound like last year's "Bitch Better Have My Money", which I despise. So she did better than I expected. There are many other great songs on her ANTI album, but this one is still good.

I have to admit what I have in bold was the worst song I can remember from her. Rihanna- Work, while it's not one of my favorite songs from her, it's still a huge improvement and the beat/instrumental is really good. One thing I realize about Rihanna- Work is that the way she expresses her lyrics is nothing new. She's done this style in many of her other songs from the past. Rihanna is from Bridgetown, Barbados and she has that strong Caribbean blood in her.

Let's start this thread by listing some of your best and worst songs of 2015.

Here's what I consider the best and worst of the past year (in no particular order):

Best
Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea "Pretty Girls"
Daya "Hide Away"
Meghan Trainor f/John Legend "Like I'm Gonna Lose You"
Tori Kelly "Nobody Love," "Should've Been Us," and "Hollow"
Halsey "New Americana"
David Bowie "Lazarus" and "Blackstar"
Eden xo "Too Cool to Dance" (actually from 2014), "The Weekend" and "Hold Me Now" (THompson Twins cover heard on Scream Queens pilot)
Nick Jonas "Levels"
Tove Lo "Talking Body" and "Moments"
Fall Out Boy "Centuries" (though I got sick of it when it got overplayed, then I warmed back up), "Uma Thurman" (That Munsters sample, man!), and "Irresistible" f/Demi Lovato (Music video spoofs "It's Gonna Be Me" by NSYNC and features Chris and Joey)
John Williams - Star Wars: The Force Awakens score
Ennio Morricone - The Hateful Eight score
Jason Derulo "Want to Want Me" and "Cheyenne"
The Weeknd "Earned It," "Can't Feel My Face," "The Hills," and "In the Night"
Little Mix "Black Magic"

Disturbed "The Sound of Silence" (S&G cover)
Rihanna f/Paul McCartney and Kanye West "Four Five Seconds"
Nico & Vinz "That's How You Know"
Selena Gomez "Good For You," "Same Old Love," and "Hands to Myself" (Surprisingly a much better singer than her ex)
Omi "Cheerleader"
Fetty Wap "Trap Queen" (Even though I could never understand a word he was saying. I guess I like it because I thought he kept saying, "Eden xo" over and over.)
Flo Rida "GDFR" (Goin' down fa reeeeaaaal!  8) Yeah, it did get a little overplayed at its peak)
Ed Sheeran "Photograph"
Adam Lambert "Ghost Town" and "Another Lonely Night"
Ella Henderson "Ghost"
Zara Larrson "Lush Life"
Jess Glynne "Hold My Hand"
Maroon 5 "This Summer's Gonna Hurt"
Demi Lovato "Cool for the Summer" and "Confident"
Adele "Hello" and "When We Were Young"
Ellie Goulding "On My Mind," "Love Me Like You Do," "Army," and "Something in the Way You Move"
Drake "Hotline Bling"
Elle King "Ex's and Oh's"
Kaya Stewart "In Love with a Boy"
Natalie La Rose "Somebody" and "Around the World"
Tinashe "Player"
Chris Brown "Zero"
Robin Shulz "Sugar"
Major Lazer "Lean On"
Ariana Grande "Focus"

I'm probably missing a few. There were a lot I liked, most of which flopped or KJ103 stopped playing.

Worst
Rihanna "Bitch Better Have My Money" (One of the worst songs I have ever heard in my life)
David Guetta "Hey Mama"
Anything by or featuring Justin Bieber
Anything by or featuring One Direction or Zayn
Anything country
Silento "Watch Me"

'All About That Bass" star Meghan Trainor came out with her latest single "No". It sounds like a early 2000s Britney Spears song to me. I liked it at first but after hearing it about two or three times it's difficult to listen to.

It's not on YouTube yet but it is on sale, and on music streaming services.

So you don't like her newer hip-hop style? I remember how "Pour It Up" and "Looooove Song" (featuring Future) were always playing on the hip-hop stations in 2013, while the other songs you mentioned plus "We Found Love in a Hopeless Place" were more on the pop/top-40 stations.

Her later material is even more hip-hop, like "B**** Better Have My Money" and "Work".

I think "NO" is going to be another "Focus". It'll probably debut really high and then drop down the charts at a fairly rapid pace once people realize that it's not a good song.

Speaking of Focus, Ariana Grande's latest single Dangerous Woman from the unreleased album of the same name dropped today.

It's okay. It's not catchy nor does it showcase impressive vocals, but it's not particularly offensive either. A boring song overall.

Zayn Malik also released his new single LIKE I WOULD (all caps). I like it overall, but I'm not crazy for it or anything.

Another bland week for pop music unfortunately. There's way too many shallow sad songs. I can use some songs with some melancholy, but most of these don't do anything for me.

Zayn Malik released his billionth bland song this year with MSN-era style titling, BeFoUr

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIrXpp_Nlt4

Iggy Azalea released her new song Team. Warning for those who aren't tone deaf.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSTRTv0xVlU

A new promising artisted debuted. Fragile by Kygo (feat. Labyrinth) isn't pretty good. The studio version is available on streaming sites and Soundcloud.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycUjorgixyA

If I Were Sorry by Frans is a pretty boring song in my opinion. Apparently it's been nominated as Sweden's song for Eurovision.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4emC0VDQGz8

Be Alright by Ariana Grande is slightly bland, and not as interesting as the previous week's Dangerous Woman. Her album isn't shaping up to be as bad as her previous one though.

Let It Go - James Bay (Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #35)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsPq9mzFNGY
A nice, soothing folk/blues/soft rock song. I love listening to it when I'm studying and relaxing at night. It's a great way to slow your heart rate down and calm your nerves while you're getting ready for bed. I even recommend it for listening in bed to get yourself to fall asleep. Not to say it's boring - it's just great for easing yourself for sleeping.

Piece by Piece (Idol Version) - Kelly Clarkson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FHYBQxURQo
A beautiful and emotionally resonant song. I find it to be incredibly touching and it is such a tearjerker! I love this version of the song even more than the original. The stripped-down production makes the song more powerful and enhances the lyrics to the finest degree. Gorgeous!

Oui - Jeremih
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtcP0PFifpE
The trap beats are irritating, but the instruments aren't bad. If the beats were softer and were replaced by subdued *stomp + clap* beats I would find it much more pleasant to listen to. It's not a bad song overall, but I wouldn't buy it. The beats ruin the commercial potential, but if were to be played on the radio I would listen to it. I give it a 7/10.

Never Forget You - Zara Larsson & MNEK
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTyN-DB_v5M
It's not your typical catchy song, but it's more of an interesting learning experience. A mix of UK garage, dubstep, 2-step, and even a tiny bit of drum n' bass, it has a very innovative approach to dance music. I enjoy the uniqueness of the song, and it is one that should not go ignored. However, if more songs are made like this it's going to ruin the genre-bending style and it will quickly get annoying. These types of songs have to be rare.

Middle (feat. Bipolar Sunshine) - DJ Snake
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvPT2QuCIOA
Following in the same vein as last year's hit "You Know You Like It", it incorporates distorted vocals, hazy synths, mild trap beats, looped sound effects, and an unconventional rhythmic structure, kind of like the song above and most mid 2010's trap EDM songs. I'm totally digging this! I love the cyber psychedelic atmosphere of the song, and it sounds totally original! Even better, it still sounds melodic and pleasant! It has a juicy bass, but the treble is totally existent - and very prominently so. This song is perfect for lounging and dancing!
(P.S. - Just because this is trap does not mean that this is hip-hop. This is dance! Just because you have crap artists like Fetty Wap and Future incorporating trap beats into their terrible rap tunes does not mean that that is trap! This is real trap music!)

These are the most recent good songs that have become hits in the USA. There are a few more other hits, but they aren't good, or I at least don't care for them. Here is a list of rising songs on the Billboard Hot 100, they could hit the top 40 soon. Some of these are also just songs that are starting to receive a good amount of attention, which in turn results in chart appearances, and if the favorable attention continues, could turn into chart success.

Potential rising hits:
America's Sweetheart - Elle King
Under the Influence - Elle King (only released on Alternative Rock radio, but has the potential for crossover success)
Wild Things - Alessia Cara
Sugar (feat. Francesco Yates) - Robin Schulz
YOUTH - Troye Sivan
New Romantics - Taylor Swift
Came Here to Forget - Blake Shelton
Something New - Zendaya

Those are all the good ones.

I really like "Fragile". "If I Were Sorry" is alright. I'm not going to bother listening to the rest, and I'll save my sanity and not listen to Iggy Azalea. I don't think the song is going to catch on too much. The public has moved on from her, although she does have her devoted fans.

Haha, sorry, I meant to say Fragile "is pretty good". "Isn't pretty good" doesn't make any sense! ;D

I'll have to check out the songs you listed.

For Iggy Azalea, I have to admit "Fancy" was a guilty pleasure of mine. :-[ Black Widow wasn't that good, I believe she released another single after that that I forgot the name of, and this one is straight-up bad.

Recent songs I like:

Halsey "Colors" (Mediabase Pop #39; current peak #38; bullet. Billboard Bubbling Under #24; peak #20) & "Castle" (both versions)

JGulAZnnTKA

Hasn't made the Hot 100 yet, , but I'll be damned if it doesn't next week. Currently 19,479,219 views on Youtube and knocked down to #39 on Mediabase Pop with a strong bullet.

Halsey has a great voice and great songs. There's not really anyone else like her in the Top 40; she's about as "alternative pop" as it gets. Nice to see her (and this song) break out.

(Meanwhile, the Huntsman version of "Castle" is currently #5 on Bubbling Under and hasn't been released to radio)

Vk0xkd8qs9I

Daya "Sit Still Look Pretty" (Mediabase #41; current peak #40; bullet. Billboard Hot 100: Hasn't charted yet)

IdymkbLAuAk

Daya and her voice continue to shine on this followup to "Hide Away." Feminist-leaning "boys, don't treat me like a toy" lyrics and a nice bop-y melody.

Chainsmokers f/Daya "Don't Let Me Down" (Mediabase #15; current peak #15; bullet. Billboard Hot 100: #17; current peak: #17; bullet)

o0citpYDaVg

I loved "Roses." I loved "Hide Away." Put the Chainsmokers and Daya together and you get an exploding smash.

Ruth B "Lost Boy" (Mediabase #25; Billboard Hot 100 #41)

-3m_V1XNPxA

Singer-songwriter story songs are back... and a compelling one at that! Ruth also has a great voice and is pretty.

Demi Lovato "Stone Cold" (Mediabase --PURGED--; peak: #36. Billboard Bubbling Under peak #3)

WDAd0S92Uko

I thought it would be at least moderately successful. About as modest as it gets, right? For a song with 30 million Youtube views, it's odd that it never made the Hot 100.  ??? #rigged

Jason Derulo "If It Ain't Love" (Mediabase #21; peak #21; bullet. Billboard Hot 100: #94 )

prLCSRP0aCc

I think that's the same purple suit from the "Cheyenne" video; there's a flop that should've been a hit.  :\'( "Cheyeeeeeenne! Chey-eee-eeee-eeenne! Look what we started, baby, you're not what I expected 'cause... All I ever wanted was some fuuuun."

Chord progression kinda reminds me of the "G A Bm" section of "Subdivisions" by Rush. You have no idea what I'm talking about!  ;D So let's move on. Awesome tune. Hope it makes up for "Cheyenne" flopping.

nNi0gyO41VQ

Rihanna "Kiss It Better" and (to a lesser extent) "Work"

Fifth Harmony "Work From Home"

That keyboard! That is all.

Ariana Grande "Dangerous Woman"

I haven't heard an Ariana song I didn't like. But this one REALLY shows off her vocals.

Tori Kelly "Hollow" (Flopped)

#JusticeForTori Why does she always flop? Her songs are amazing. Her voice is amazing. She's likeable. She has yet to make the Top 40 of the Hot 100. And yet, Justin Bieber and Zayn have had #1 hits(!).  8-P

Lukas Graham "7 Years" (Mediabase #5; Billboard #3 )

Awesome story song.

---

Recent songs I hate:

Zayn "Pillowtalk"

Even if I didn't have a bias against One Direction, I'd still hate this garbage. He sounds like a constipated American Idol contestant. How the hell did this make the Top 40, let alone #1? I'd rather vote for Trump (something I wouldn't dare do!) than listen to this garbage. Once I hear the second chord (just to make sure it's not the far-superior "Hotline Bling"  8)) off it goes.  :P Just rubbish.

ANYTHING by Justin Bieber

Just because he's Justin Bieber. Just copy and paste everything I said above about Zayn.  :P

Here's a few updates on the songs I posted previously:

Halsey "Colors"
(Mediabase Pop #42; current peak #38. Billboard Bubbling Under #8; current peak #8)

Halsey "Castle"
(Billboard Bubbling Under #3; current peak #3)

Daya "Sit Still Look Pretty"
(Mediabase #37; current peak #37; bullet. Billboard Bubbling Under current peak #11)

Chainsmokers f/Daya "Don't Let Me Down"
(Mediabase #11; current peak #11; bullet. Billboard Hot 100 #14; current peak #14)

Ruth B "Lost Boy"
(Mediabase #20; current peak #20; bullet. Billboard Hot 100 #55; current peak #41; regained bullet after losing it last week due to Prince's death crashing the chart. Maybe it'll bounce back on Billboard; it's still gaining on radio.)

Demi Lovato "Stone Cold"
Don't ask. RIP "Stone Cold" 2016-2016.

Jason Derulo "If It Ain't Love"
(Mediabase #18; current peak #18; bullet. Billboard Hot 100 #87; current peak #84 with a bullet; probably also suffered the Prince/Beyonce effect.)

Rihanna "Kiss It Better"
(Mediabase #23; peak position #23; bullet. Billboard Hot 100 #67; current peak #67)

49lY0HqqUVc

Fifth Harmony "Work From Home"
(Mediabase #4; current peak #4; bullet. Billboard Hot 100 #7; current peak #6; bullet.)

Ariana Grande "Dangerous Woman"
(Mediabase #12; current peak #12; bullet. Billboard Hot 100 #21; current peak #10; lost its bullet.)

Other recent ones I like:

Drake "One Dance"
Zara Larrson "Never Forget You"
Mike Posner "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" (to show Avicii I was cool)
Melanuie Martinez "Pity Party"
Alessia Cara "Wild Things"

New song from Bebe Rexha and Nicki Minaj.  Has a very early 2010s feel to it.  It's very refreshing.

A few minutes ago, I watched the music video for "Can't Stop The Feeling" by Justin Timberlake for the first time. After watching the clip, I couldn't help but wonder why the music video was filmed in 4:3 ratio and not widescreen.

Is this some sort of recent trend? Another Top-40, which was released last year, has a 4:3 music video as well.

Just as a side note, I don't like either of the songs.

Chance The Rapper - No Problem.

This song satisfies a redemption of Hip Hop for me. My theme of 2016.

Out of all of the songs which have been released throughout the year, I only like one song; "Bang Bang" by Green Day. In all honesty, there are probably only two or three songs which I actually like from this decade.

Does anybody think this song has an early 2000s sound?  The bassline is a bit more modern, but the whistling sounds like something that would have been in a song from probably late 2000 or early 2001.

Damn that's a sick beat. What early 2000s song has whistling though?

I was thinking of this song.

It looks like it was from 1994, but I never heard it until around 2000.

Som many age-related songs.

Songs about how :
-we'll be 60 years old (7 Years)
- we wish we could turn back time, to the good old days (Stressed out)
- it reminds us when we were young (When We were young)
- we are never getting older ( Closer)

2016 will go down as one of, if not my overall favorite year for music this decade. So many amazing memories.
