Subject: Hail, Caesar! debuts in second place at box office

Written By: Philip Eno on 02/08/16 at 7:24 am

The new Coen brothers' film Hail, Caesar! - a satire starring George Clooney - debuted in second place at the North American box office with an estimated $11.4m (£7.9m).

Kung Fu Panda 3 clung on to the top spot, taking an estimated $21m (£14.5m) in its second weekend.

The weekend's other new releases, Nicholas Sparks' romance The Choice and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - which pretty much does what it says on the tin - had to settle for fifth and sixth places respectively.

The Choice took $6.1m (£4.2m), with the period-drama-meets-the-undead romp taking $5.2m (£3.6m)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still in the top five - it has now taken a total of $900m (£620.6m) at the North American box office and more than $2bn (£1.38bn) globally.
