Taylor Swift's 1989 has won the coveted album of the year award at this year's Grammys in Los Angeles.

The singer - who is the first woman to win the award twice - also won best pop vocal album and best music video for her track Bad Blood.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar won the most prizes on the night with five awards.

British singer Ed Sheeran also won his first two Grammys for song of the year and best pop solo performance for his number one hit Thinking Out Loud.

Ugghhh, I'm sorry, but Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly should've won Album of the Year.  1989 is just a generic pop album that happened to sell millions of copies.  I guess it's at least fitting for one of the worst years in music history.

Whoah, while I agree Kendrick should have won, I think that last statement is way too much. There were clearly worse years in the music industry than 2015 (if that's even the year you're mentioning). We had to suffer through 1948, 1955, 1962, 1972, 1987, 1990, 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2012. Those were genuinely bad years in music history. As for lackluster, there are plenty: 1954, 1959, 1963, 1970, 1971, 1985, 1988, 1999, 2004, 2007, and 2010. I think your views of the mid 2010's are contingent with your personal life, which you say are bad.

I try not to see years (regarding popular culture) through the lens of my personal life. 2012 was one of the worst years in recent history, and the worst year of the 2010s, but that year was when my personal life was at its most exciting and when I was experiencing new things. 2015 was easily the least exciting year for my personal life (though not boring), but I think 2015 offered us many great albums and songs. My views of 2014 are almost completely the same as 2015.

I can actually understand most of the years you just listed, but as for the three I bolded?  Here are some excellent albums that came out of all three:

Additionally, all three years were eons better for hit songs than 2015.

I would never consider 1959, 1970, 1971, 1985, 1999, or 2010 "lackluster" years for music.  1959 may have been the year that "The Day the Music Died" occurred, but it was also an incredibly revolutionary year for jazz, which included Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and Ornette Coleman's The Shape of Jazz to Come.  1970 and 1971?  Seriously?  Are you forgetting about Led Zeppelin III and IV, Black Sabbath's first three albums, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers, Santana's Abraxas, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, George Harrison's All Things Must Past, Neil Young's After the Gold Rush, Carole King's Tapestry, David Bowie's Hunky Dory, The Who's Who's Next, Pink Floyd's Meddle, Joni Mitchell's Blue, and frankly a whole bunch of other classic albums that people still remember fondly today?  1985 was not really my favorite 80s year for music, but it still produced legendary works like Kate Bush's Hounds of Love, Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms, and Tears for Fears' Songs from the Big Chair, in addition to hordes of popular singles that I aways love coming back to.  1999 isn't my favorite year for album releases, but it's still a great year for pop, in my opinion; I won't argue with you here because I know how much you hate Y2K-era teen pop, much of which I love.  2010 is probably the best year in the past decade and a half for hit songs, and it's also great for albums, including My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Contra, The Suburbs, and Plastic Beach, to name a few.  Even 2007, in spite of all the dreadful snap music that was flooding American airwaves, is still one of the very best years for indie rock, having produced Strawberry Jam, In Rainbows, Neon Bible, Sound of Silver, For Emma, Forever Ago; and Favourite Worst Nightmare, just to name a few.

I don't think my dislike of 2015 music is really contingent with my personal life.  I hated most songs I heard back in 7th grade, but I still remember being much happier back then than I am today.  I still think To Pimp a Butterfly, The Magic Whip, 25, and Sometimes I Just Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit are great albums, and even Justin Bieber's "Sorry" is surprisingly good, but there's still little to no reason for me to listen to today's music instead of all the wonderful stuff that came out in the 80s and 90s.  Based on the general consensus here, I'm not alone in my dislike of 2015 in music, either.

I disagree with the 2002 albums. I don't like Eminem's singles from that era at all, and Nas's '90s material was much better imo. I really like Relapse and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 though. 2002 was absolutely not a better year for singles than 2015 was. You had awful songs like "How You Remind Me", "If I Could Go", "Hot in Herre", any Ashanti song, No Doubt's Rock Steady singles, anything from P. Diddy and Creed, "Without Me", "Oops (Oh My)", "Girlfriend", "Just a Friend 2002", "Move Bitch", there is just too many to count. I also don't like Christina Aguilera's Stripped and Justin Timberlake's Justified albums. 2002 was the year that mainstream music really went bad. We haven't completely recovered since, although since 2011 we have come close. 2002 was one of the worst years for music of the 21st century so far. Yes, 2015 had a lot of bad trap rap and bubblegum pop songs, but that wasn't all to the charts as you seem to imply. As bad as Fetty Wap and Ariana Grande are, they aren't as bas as Gotye, Skrillex, and Carly Rae Jepsen. 2015 has actually given us a large amount of decade-defining hits (in the good way).

The reason why I see 1959 as lackluster is because the rock and roll songs were incredibly simplistic - they do nothing for me. I view 1970 and 1971 as lackluster because the pop hits in the early 1970's were mostly watered-down, formulaic versions of the very same genres that were so incredibly cutting-edge and original in the late 1960's. Not all of it was bad though, Jackson 5 was really popular in that time frame, and I love them. 1985 is lackluster in my opinion because I find it so incredibly overrated. I think the core '80s in general weren't very impressive in my view. I thought the very beginning and the very end was better - especially 1989. What a great way to end the decade. As for 1999, I may have constantly criticized the teen pop, but the rest I still enjoy. I do think the large amounts of teen pop diluted the quality of that year though. You had great songs like "Beautiful Stranger" and "What It's Like", but they were overshadowed by other songs like "Sometimes" and "I Want It That Way". I strongly disagree with you on 2010. That year was incredibly unoriginal and formulaic. The only upper hand I would give 2010 over 2015 is hip-hop, but that's really it. I really find a lot of the music too soft and safe for my tastes, and what makes the year especially bland is the fact that Indie hadn't gone mainstream yet, which would not happen until 2011. I really don't want Taio Cruz and LMFAO back, especially now that we have artists like Imagine Dragons, Lana Del Rey, new Fall Out Boy (who are so much better than they were in the aughts), Elle King, and Vance Joy. Also, 2015 gave us the most innovative mainstream music for the first time since 2001.

As with the other people on this board, you do have to realize most of us are minorities on our opinions in the real world. In real life, most people your age still like today's mainstream music.

I'm alright with 1989, although I don't own any of the songs. "Shake It Off" was catchy, much better than 2012's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together".  8-P I like "Style" for the instrumental, I don't like the vocals (too girly). "Out of the Woods" has an eeriness that I enjoy, although I don't like it enough to buy it (the chorus is pretty banal). Now "Blank Space", "Bad Blood", and "Wildest Dreams", on the other hand, were poor single choices. The best song out of the 1989 project, wasn't even on the official standard album, was "New Romantics". She made an awful choice not releasing that song as a single. And she's going to be taking a break from music so we're not going to be seeing her for another 2-3 years.

Hmm, I'll have to disagree with Shake It Off being teenybopper. The song has a lot of raw energy, and while it isn't exactly deep and moving lyrics, I do like it when I can just have fun with a song. Shake It Off is a fun song.  :)

I haven't listened to other songs on the album, but I agree that Wildest Dreams and Bad Blood are weak.

Written By: Philip Eno on 08/15/17 at 12:36 am

Pop star Taylor Swift has won a sexual assault case against ex-radio DJ David Mueller, who she said had groped her at a 2013 concert. He assaulted her by grabbing her bottom beneath her skirt during a photo shoot, a jury in Denver, Colorado, found. She was awarded a symbolic $1 (77p) in damages that she had sought. Mr Mueller had originally tried to sue the pop star, saying that her claims had cost him his job. But that lawsuit was thrown out by a judge last week. On Monday, the jury also rejected similar claims Mueller had made against the singer's mother, Andrea Swift, and her radio liaison, Frank Bell. In a statement following the verdict, Ms Swift said: "I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this.

She's just posted a tweet which reveals her new record is called Reputation and will be released on 10 November. All the photos have also returned to her social media profiles after mysteriously disappearing last Friday. It's her sixth studio album and led to the hashtag #TS6 to trend on Twitter at points since her "blackout" at the end of last week and this week. The first single from the album is out on Thursday night.

Both Taylor Swift and Katy Perry should be ashamed of themselves.

"Swish Swish" and "Look What You Made Me Do" are both absolute trash. Both Taylor and Katy should go back to how they were in 2010-11.

Katy definitely needs to go back to her 2010 hair. Her current style is hideous.

It has taken her eight years, but Taylor Swift has finally made it to the top of the UK singles chart. Given the the number of records that Look What You Made Me Do has smashed, it is perhaps not a surprise. The song, her first solo release in two years, has already had huge success on Spotify and YouTube. It had 5.3 million streams and 30,000 downloads in its first week, the Official Charts Company said, and bumps Dua Lipa's New Rules off the top spot. Look What You Made Me Do - which some people think is about Swift's feud with Kanye West - is her eighth top five single in the UK.

A major stadium in Los Angeles has confirmed that it uses facial recognition tech during sport and music events, to spot known troublemakers. The Rose Bowl told news site Gizmodo that it used the tech "inside and outside" the stadium gates. It made the statement after an article in Rolling Stone alleged that Taylor Swift fans were scanned at a pop concert in an effort to spot stalkers. However, the companies involved have been reluctant to talk.

Crazy to think "Look What You Made Me Do" is more than a 1 year old.
