Subject: Amazon buy rights to Woody Allen film

Written By: Philip Eno on 02/19/16 at 9:00 am

Not content with having Woody Allen make a TV show for them, online behemoth Amazon has also snapped up the North American rights to the veteran director's new movie.

The currently untitled film - a romantic comedy set in the 1930s whose cast includes Steve Carell and Kristen Stewart - will be released in US cinemas in the summer before being made available to stream on the Amazon Prime service.

Allen, who turns 80 in December, has greeted the news with his usual mordant wit.

"Like all beginning relationships, there is much hope, mutual affection and genuine goodwill - the lawsuits come later."

Amazon Studios head Roy Price, in contrast, was slightly more on message.

"Woody Allen is a brilliant film-maker. We're so proud to be in business with him for both his next film and his first-ever TV series."
